Trash Talking

Does anyone else think football would be better off with more trash talking from the players? I mean it has mass apeal in other sports such as Boxing and MMA. I know we sure did a bunch when we were playing ball in the park. Heck, think about how much is done by the fans.

I think there is enough already. Trash talking never bothered me but if you do it back it up

No, I think it's pointless and stupid.

Totally agree, I am more of the Jimmy Johnson attitude, keep your mouth shut and play, keep your head in the game at hand. Stay focused. If your mouthing off, you generally get bit back. Remember a year or so ago when Crayton ran his mouth off about playing the Patriots for a rematch in the superbowl.

Also, mouthing off is bulletin board material. I am not sure how old you are, but years ago, a wreath was given to Harvey Martin from supposedly the Commanders. I am sure that Hostile could fill in more details on that. (Reports later came in that either some Dallas Cowboy or staff sent the wreath to Harvey Martin and not the Commanders) but that did the trick. Harvey Martin was fired up for that game, and killed the Commanders. After the game, he took the wreath back to Commanders locker at texas stadium, opened the door and threw the wreath back at the Commanders.

You do all your talking on the field, then after the game, you can tell those other players how you feel, but you play the game focused.

Yes I believe the players should be able to say what they want on the field as long as nobody is life threatend. Even some taunting should be ok, that's part of the game!! The NFL has gone soft over the years and it has taken away from the game itself.

Jimmy Johnson: you can put it in 3-inch type: We will win the game.

I have no problem with a little trash talking in the press. I think it makes the games a lot more interesting. What the Giants/Cowboys have going on right now is about the right level of jawing. It's generally respectful and nobody's over the top. I can tell you I'm a lot more excited about this week than I am before Commanders week, and that wasn't always the case.

I do agree that it can get out of hand, though, and that when it does it's annoying. Nobody wants the NFL to become pro-wrestling.

Why do people love trash talking? It's such a waste of time, and makes you look like an idiot if you lose.

Well as the big dummy jacobs said 'my teammates told me to be tone it down because it paints a target on me' so in his case it's great. Everytime that guy touches the ball I'm hoping someone causes him pain. In fact making him sit on the sideline the rest of the game would be goal #1 if I had a say in the Cowboys defensive plan.

It is poor sportsmanship IMO as well, let your actions on the field do the talking.

I would love to see Igor meet Jacobs in the backfield a couple of times to shut his big mouth up.

Michael Jordan was the king of trash talking..It's part of the game especially in a physical sport. Now you cant even make a big play and look at the defender...What the hell is that all about? Might hurt someones feelings?

Pup used to talk trash to Jerry Rice. I think he is the only CB I've ever seen actually get under Rice's skin to the point it appeared to affect his game.

The same reason we like doing it on this site. It's a relatively harmless way to put some skin in the game, and a little credibility on the line. And it's a good way to challenge yourself to perform.

Plus, it makes for fun reading. How many of us would care about a mediocre running back who's built like Tarzan, plays like Jane if he didn't flap his gums like my wife after her first drink before every Cowboys/Giants game?

Worst post I have seen this week. Which is saying something considering the doom and gloom after a win.
