This is the guy that I want to trade up for. Dynamic, play making LB and he is only 19 years old. You heard that correctly, 19 years old. Trade the 1, the 2 and a 4 comp pick to move up and get him. Pick a big fat 1 Tech in the 3rd to keep Lee, Edmunds & Jaylon clean and let those 3 fly around. With the CB's we drafted last year and the emergence of DLaw and Irving, this will just about complete the defensive upgrade. Would just need to find a Safety somewhere this year or next.

Pretty much agree I would absolutely love to get this kid on our team but the downfall of this is giving away all of our picks for one player leaves us with serious depth issues.

There's some real concerns I have with his tape, but his age mitigates a lot of those problems. As Brett Kollmann said, he's 19 years old, has no idea what he's doing, and he's still the best player on the field. Get him some NFL coaching and let him keep growing, and he could be an All-Pro by the time he's 22.

The upside with him is just astronomical. He's the LB version of Tyron.

Would love to get him. He is my favorite player besides Nelson but he will not drop to our pick and I am not willing to trade our 2nd for him. Now if he came to around 14-15 range then I would think about trading one of 4th and 5th for him.

I don't know if you can teach "instinct". He gets by in college because he is physically dominant but he miss too many holes. He is your boom or bust players that I am not willing to gamble on. I rather hit a double than strike out completely.

Who would the starting LG be?
What if Lawrence gets hurt? We have no backup pass rushers?
Who’s the starting FS?
What happens when Lee misses games?

This idea of giving up picks for 1 player is just crazy to me. We still have holes in the starting 22 and an obvious lack of depth on the whole team. 1 MLB isn’t helping this roster turn the corner to being serious contenders

Instinct does come with reps.

The way I see it:

LG - Collins if he moves, FA signing Marcus Martin, Draft pick
IF Lawrence gets hurt - you can say "what if" about every position, for every team
FS - Woods or Heath, Draft Pick
If Lee gets hurt - same as Lawrence above

In OP’s scenario he picked a LB in round 1, a DT in 3 and 2nd and 4th comp were traded. That leaves us with our 4th, and a bunch of late picks...the odds of getting multiple day 1 contributors is close to 0.

MMartin/Heath/Woods isn’t good enough for me personally. Not a fan of mediocrity.

And no, other teams have depth. We do not. If Lawrence goes down again we are looking at Taco and Crawford as our DE’s rushing the passer. And Tapper/Gregory I guess technically on the roster but they might as well not be. That doesn’t make me feel very good...

Yeah, could get another Chaz Green with those picks. This draft sucks. When the draft sucks you trade up.

So the draft doesn't suck when we draft Tremaine Edmunds? What makes him a lock for not sucking, because he was a 1st rnd pick?

Lets say the 3rd round pick was Nathan Shepard.

I don't see a problem on the D-line. We'd have a good 3 man rotation with Collins, Irving and Shepard, Price can play a role too. If Lawrence goes down we can either kick Irving back out to LDE where he's flashed talent or move Crawford their we're he's also been decent. Then play one of Taco/Tapper/Gregory at RDE. It's not ideal to lose a guy on a franchise tag obviously but I do think we've got some pretty decent cover.

I also think an O-line of Fleming, Martin, Frederick, L.Collins & T.Smith is an upgrade on last year.....and not that mediocre. I prefer Fleming to be a swing tackle but if the draft doesn't turn out I'm okay with starting those five.

The safety is the week link. But probably pretty similar to last season given I don't really rate Jones as a safety.

What 4th round pick is likely to be able to fill the hole left by a Lawrence injury?

Depth is great and all, but I will take a stud over camp fodder any day of the week.

The Cowboys record of picking after the 3rd round isn't so hot.

I'm not moving up for him. He has a very high ceiling, but he is slow to diagnose plays as of right now. He's young so that can be improved, but I'm sure as hell not taking him over Roquan

No thanxs. Those picks can be used for DT depth, S depth, RB depth.

If you use those 3rd, 4th and 5th round picks on 3 DT prospects, your odds of getting a single half-decent DT starter is only 60%. Better odds if you are just looking for a quality back-up. But you aren't going to get 3 positions covered - even if just looking for backups.

If those picks are the difference (according to your evaluators) between a crap-shoot prospect and a likely high-impact starter, it's not a bad move at all.

Where are you getting the odds from? Do these odds factor our scouts and those who break down the draft prospects? Give me a link.
