Another anointing oil thread, this board was on fire with Smith and the wolf being the best linebackers in the league. Remember Richard the secondary coach who was going to replace Garrett?
pump the brakes and wait and see what the future brings
This isn't the same thing, though. Diggs has played football all of his life. Look who his brother is.
He's not exceptionally fast (for a CB), but he's definitely fast enough at 4.4, though. Where he's not fast enough, he makes up for it with his play. INTS are the biggest difference makers a defense can have. You don't have to make a sack, you don't have to stop them shy, your defense gets to rest, and your offense comes back on the field, before their defense gets to rest.
It's not like, we need to wait and see if Trevon Diggs is any good. He's a cornerback. They all get beat, sometimes. Even the greatest Deion . . . he got beat, sometimes.
It happens, so a lot of fans, most who just don't know how difficult the game of football is, hold back their praise for Diggs because they want to wait until he has a bad game and say, "see, I told you so." He was good his rookie year I could see it his first year. Very good his 2nd year. Why would you wait to see how good he is? He's obviously very good. He's the kind of player you win Super Bowls with.
The downside on him is that he gives up too many yards, but that's the tradeoff for getting 11 INTs. And, yet, still, the yards he gave up isn't horrible, even if he had 3-4 INTs. He could tighten up on giving up yards, I suppose, but that would mean less INTs.
In any case, he's established that teams should think twice before throwing his way... and I think that only makes him a better overall CB, and contributor to the defense, even if he doesn't have the stats he had last year. 11 INTs isn't common. But he's definitely still capable of putting up similar kinds of numbers in multiple, because he dropped a few INTSs as well last year. And, again, he's been doing this thing his whole life. So, yeah, Diggs is good, if not great.
Parsons gets more credit, because he's such a freak at his position. But Diggs is very good, too.
Not only that, I'm saying underrated here. And, as you can see, despite his numbers, which are unheard of in decades, he's not being mentioned nearly as much as Parsons.
It's because of the position he plays.
