Trevor Lawrence - Major Red Flag

The overwhelming consensus is that Trevor Lawrence is a transcendent player who will be a star in the NFL and end up in the Hall of Fame. All the draft experts say he is a can’t-miss prospect, one of the best they have ever seen. I have serious doubts, particularly after his recent interview where people close to him said Trevor could walk away from football tomorrow and be fine. It sounds like he lacks the passion to be truly great. His attitude appears to be the opposite of Tom Brady, which is always a bad thing.

His fiancée has also been quoted as saying, “There is more to life than playing football.”

Lawrence has been blessed to be surrounded by excellent talent and coaching while at Clemson. Everything has been easier for him because of that. The NFL is completely different, however, and I have a feeling he is going to find that out.

You can't be serious

The very first person I can think of who would have that same attitude and still work his butt off (as everyone says Lawrence does) but also have an IQ above 30, or enough to know for a fact that there is more to life than football......would be Roger Staubach.
Tom Brady would agree too.

You can love a game (even be semi-obsessed over it) and work your tail off to be the very best at it, but still understand that family, health, faith and other things are FAR more important.

I’m absolutely serious.

Here is a quote from his father: “My advice to him, even in high school: ‘God has given you a great gift. But you know, at some point when the game’s taken more from you than it’s giving to you, you need to step away.’ ”.

So his dad and wife are already on record saying that they don’t mind if Trevor steps away from football, and he hasn’t even taken a snap in the NFL. That has to be in the back of Trevor’s mind. It would be better if they were asking him to be a great leader who inspires his teammates. Major red flag.

And anyone that loved Staubach, Aikman, Brady, etc, etc....truly cared for them....would say the same thing.
It does not mean a person has less drive to be great at something.
They just have a grown-up person's perspective on life.

Another concern I have is that the Clemson offense operates entirely out of the shotgun. Will he be able to learn how to take snaps under center?

This is sort of a dying art, but is deadly effective when mastered and opens up a lot of options, particularly playaction. It’s one of the reasons Brady is so effective. Hard to become an all-time great if you can’t do it.

I just watched that whole thing and trying really hard to find one thing he said that wasn't impressive.

"So much more ahead"
"Focus on the moment and not get caught up in the hype"
"Biggest goal is to win and to win a Super Bowl" ...and hopefully more than one"
"Has a lot to work on and want to always keep improving"

What did I miss?

The part of the article that says:

“His father says, “He’s not award-driven. He’s not, ‘I want to win a Super Bowl at all costs.’ ”

Trevor’s coach at Cartersville High, Joey King, says, “There is no doubt about it: With who he is as a person, he could walk away from it tomorrow and be fine.”

Others who know Lawrence well agree. This would make for an unusual Nike campaign: Who Needs This, Anyway?’

I think they are all complimenting him for his maturity.
His top "professional goal" is to win a Super Bowl and be the very best QB he can possibly be. That is all anyone can ask.

No, those are not his top entire life goals--which are to be the best PERSON he can be. That is, of course, the correct answer.

Nobody has ever said that he does not bust his butt to be the best he can be.
He just separates real life from football.

Anyway, time will tell.
No player is a lock and that includes him. They all come with risks

that is 99% of every single player in every sport...the guy like michael jordan or kobe are the one who is wired different

he is just honest enough to say it
Facts

That’s why I laugh when fans get mad when rivals respect each other after the game

I wonder what his college fiancé thinks is more important then making a hundred million dollars doing something he’s already good at...sheesh.

Shannon and Skip are just bufoons in this clip.

They are assuming things that aren't there.
Shannon played with Elway, who was about as similar to Lawrence as you can get as far as always being number one but still working hard while having a life perspective.
Certainly, Staubach was that way too.

Terrible take.

Lots of players have families. If players don't see their families as more important than football then they are pretty horrible people.

I don't think anyone is suggesting otherwise
