Tackles are worth moreIf we’re going OL at 24 I go Lindenbaum, Zion, Green, Penning in that order. The last 3 are LG’s.

Just saying it’s more of a premium position on the pay scale. These are the positions teams address in the first rd due to financial costsWe have glaring holes at LG and C. A lot of people think we have a starting C already but he’s awful. Every single DT in our division is better than him 1 on 1. Doesn’t matter if OT is more valuable if that OT is only playing 5 games per year behind Tyron Lee. I would also say top 5-7 C Lindenbaum is better then LT number 20-25.

Those worked out in spades, but it is cheaper to buy or keep an interior lineman over a Tackle. The 5 yr contract is about controlling a player at a manageable rate of the duration of his contract. Turns out both players received elite money so that worked out.I get that. Zack Martin and Travis Frederick.
After the Senior Bowl weekend he is going in the top 20. Maybe I am paranoid but I can see the Eagles drafting him at 19. Is Northern Iowa the type of school that fits McClays profile for first round picks. There are rumblings that the Cowboys are very high on the big small schooled Tackle, Trevor Penning. What I gather is that he is a mauler in the run game, gets a consistent push and virtually impossible to bull rush. Many argue due to his lack of bend, probably better off on the right side, but the Cowboys maybe considering him inside at LG.
Makes a lot of sense, draft a future starting Tackle, kick him inside early and then develop him to play Tackle when a spot opens up. We have seen this with Collins, even Larry Allen in the past. Heard Tony Pauline state, he was the best Tackle at the Senior Bowl practices.
What we do know with Penning is that our run game improves day 1 and Dak will no longer have to worry about bull rushes from their LG any longer.
Thoughts?
No, McClay is a big school guy, haven't seen many small schooled players since he was hired. What I have read is Penning has drawn a lot of buzz in the NFL Circles, probably more of a top 15-20 pick. When I looked at Penning's stats, he commits a lot of penalties, just 8 games without one, probably not the type we want to bring in if we want to curb all those penalties. After the Senior Bowl weekend he is going in the top 20. Cowboys led the league in penalties, and although they need toughness from this entire draft n FA, Penning may not be the play. This dude could be a penalty magnet at OT. OG might be his spot, since he likes to brawl.Penning was getting beat his fair share during practice. The one main takeaway from Senior Bowl week was his competitiveness and edge he played with which is also a double-edged sword.

Agreed. This OL needs to some and toughness to it, but I can also foresee Penning killing us on a critical drive with a dumb penalty after the whistle.
