I like Quinnen, but this take is completely insane.

QW hasn’t sniffed an All-Pro team in FOUR YEARS, but you want people to think he is the best defensive lineman in the NFL?

I would have traded a 1st, 2nd and Mazi to the Jets for Quinnen and kept Parsons, but I'm strange that way. I actually like having a top DT and a top DE on the same team.

That would mean no Clark and possibly no Downs if the 1st was this years. I see Williams/Clark/Downs as better overall than Parsons/Williams/??? Stronger up the middle where we need to be.

Don’t forget about the 2 - 4th round picks they got from Philly when they traded down and still got Lawrence.

Dallas — Kenny Clark, Quinnen Williams, Malachi Lawrence, Devin Moore and LT Overton

Green Bay/Jets — Micah Parsons, Mazi Smith, D'Angelo Pounds*, Cade Klubnik** and best of our two 2027 first-round picks

(The Jets traded down with our second-round pick for a second and fourth and took Pounds, then traded up in the fourth with the pick they had received to select Klubnik.)

Since we get the lower of the two firsts next year, that also affects the quality of our compensation. Say we finish 25th in the draft order and Green Bay 12th or vice versa, the Jets get the higher pick and that can be quite a difference.

Last year is pretty much irrelevant. They traded him for a futures-based package because they didn’t want to pay him.

Therefore, success for Dallas will be judged based on what they do with those futures along with how well they utilize the cap “savings” from not signing him to a mega-deal.

Success for GB will be judged based on his performance relative to his contract, as well as the opportunity-cost as measured by the guys they are unable to retain as a result.

And the potential players they could have had if they kept their picks.

It was the right move.

Would trade again.

This is how I feel, too. Whether we “won” the trade can definitely be debated, but I do think it was the correct trade to make.

If this year's 1st was traded for Williams we wouldn't have gotten Downs. If we used next year's first you have to factor in that we'd have no 1st next year. Parsons may be a better DE than Clark a DT but man, we've been watching this team get steamrolled up the middle with an elite DE.

It is definitely debatable, but I see the immediate upgrade in the middle of the defense with two proven guys, one being a potential all pro, while keeping a pick in the 1st, as the better option. If the Downs pick had been part of the Williams trade then it gets much less debatable.

Then there are the intangibles. Does Parson regain his form and stay healthy? Does MLaw prove to be a player? Does that extra pick next year net a top notch DE?

There is risk on both sides but the trade provided immediate benefit, potential future benefit and better options. I see it as a shorter path to a legit contender than paying Parsons, giving up your only 1st round pick and relying on lower draft pics and FA to get there.
