players getting paid for no show jobs, paying players for performance, hostesses providing sex for recruits but no major violations.

Yea that's just what I'd want for my son. Send him to visit a campus & he comes home with an STD. Gross.

All this occurred between 2001 and 2007. It may result in minor violations but that's it.

Pretty much every school of a top 20 program has the same things going on.
Hostesses/spirit/rally girls provide sex for recruits at every school. It isn't every recruit nor every hostess but it is common place.
Same way every college football player is dating every night he so desires.
That isn't odd, just the way of our society.19-23 year olds have lots of sex.

The no show jobs thing is common place and fairly minor.

OSU is undoubtedly turning over every stone to improve that program.
But boosters of any big time school are guilty of many of those things.

Might want to send him with condoms....
It is a college campus trip and if he likes girls he will definitely be trying to hook up with them.

I don't have a son. I'm just barely out of college myself but IF I had one OSU would be a big NO.

That whole thing, if true, is just nasty. Hookers for recruits.

I visited 5 campuses and hooked up with 4 girls. --not OSU.
I don't believe they were hookers but they were readily available and paying plenty of attention to recruits.
18/19 year old football stars (i wasn't a star; just a 2/3 star safety--i played LB in high school but was too small to play that in college) tend to find ways to hook up without needing paid hookers.
Bam Morris had tons of girls around him all the time and the dude was pretty suave but certainly not what I'd think of as handsome.
Each recruit is assigned a player tour guide.
What happens is the group of recruits stay in a particular hotel and come Saturday night you all get taken to an actual football players house or apartment for a "football party".
Plenty of girls show up and you find out very quickly which ones aren't girlfriends of players. The rest are there to schmooze with you and then it's just normal Saturday night stuff.
I am guessing particularly high ranked recruits may just have girls sent to their rooms.

This is so common place because the girls are usually not hookers; just unpaid versions of the same.
They get some benefit but it generally isn't cash or anything directly linked to hooking up with the player.

I did at one spot get taken to a strip club even though I was only 18 and bought endless tequila shots (OMG never drink cheap strip club tequila shots!-- i ended up that night not hooking up but mostly throwing up) and lap dances.

We'll likely hear more details but I don't think it is as bad as portrayed right now.
Just glad the timeline makes it tough for Dez to be pulled into it.

End of the day the players now look more at depth chart and style of football then getting hooked up on campus because that happens everywhere.
Free food, free drinks, free swag. None of it directly tied to the school.
But every player knows where to get free pizza or free beer or free cover charge.

This is just OKState's turn in the hopper but it would barely be a blip on the radar of any SEC team.

The reason the girl angle is so frequently used is the players almost all have girlfriends back at home they are leaving.
The schools are trying to overcome that home field advantage and it can be tough to impossible.

No matter what I post I'll come off like a prude but I'm thinking getting the recruits sexed up shouldn't be allowed by any school. I realize boys will be boys.

I once worked for a very wealthy guy that kept 10-15 of his fav college players on his payroll, he also owned a bunch of nice cars that were on loan. He also sent his jet to lots of places with players on board. This was a big 12 school, and i was told if any of this stuff ever came out linking it from me it would be hell to pay, i still have the payroll records ! But i aint talking...

So he was the Don Corleone of the Big 12?

I'm sure they all cheat to some extent. College football is huge money. I actually like it more than the NFL except for the big dogs beating up on the little schools which happens every week. But the game day atmosphere & all that is more entertaining.

Some people would be amazed to find out how much this goes on - and it isn't just at the big schools, either.

I went to University of Memphis (more of a basketball school) and there were players driving Bentleys and stuff. Somehow doubt that was paid for by their own family.

I was joking with the Don Corleone comment. If your boss is rich he had power. I get that.

Yep. No matter what the NCAA does, it's not going to be able to eliminate all of the corruption. There are just so many ways to skirt the system.

adding to Tyke's post, heck the NCAA itself is a huge part of corruption....which is part of the reason a lot of us roll their eyes everytime the ncaa tries to pull the "sacred ground, holier than thou" card. And crap like this is going on at every college with sports in the country. My school lost a major basketball recruit to Alcorn St due to Alcorn St putting cash directly in the parents' hands, and that's first hand info. Even coaches that WANT to run clean programs cant because they can't keep the boosters and others doing what they want and the caliber of college athlete now expects to be given everything so no chance any coach is going to stop them from taking an open hand of cash or other stuff. Close buddy of mine that lived with me for a semester played at Florida in '94, the year they went to the final four...to hear him tell all the stuff going on with the boosters will make you super jaded as to the purity of college sports, and he wasn't one to exaggerate anything. Paying players won't change a thing either, except up the rates and benefits boosters will have to pony up to get the top recruits.

Nothing wrong with being a prude.
Discussion is really just that it isn't a violation or even remotely unusual.
Not a single girl has come forward to complain or state she was paid for these services.
The various rally/spirit girl organizations hardly require chastity.
And the athletes are generally physically desirable young guys with plenty of swagger.

Where there are paid women involved that is going over the line but nothing in this indicates that to be the case and the sex angle was just to make the story juicier.

No coincidence SI is dying financially yet could spend a year putting this together and then hyping it to all ends with some phased/pieced report.

I have two young daughters if they wanted to join some rally girl or spirit organization I'd vomit.
Thankfully both are athletes as opposed to just chasing or cheering them.
