So I caught the tail end of PTI today as I was leaving work and they were debating how well To Aikman would fit as Cowboys GM. I mist admit my eyes lit up and the pitter patter of my heart was clearly audible for a few minutes... Then I realized they were only speculating on the possibility. That's still very exciting!!!

Ever since Seattle won the Super Bowl and had their GM enjoy a nice cameo during the game, it seems that the climate at Valley Ranch has changed ever so slightly. As follow up to the earlier thread about Jerry looking within and the enormous amount of debate spawned by it, I firmly believe something different is cooking in Jerry's head. It just makes perfect sense.

Troy is that tie back to the incredible 90s where Super Bowls trips were commonplace in Valley Ranch. Troy would easily be trusted which means he won't be just a figurehead. Everyone loves troy. Well... I won't speak for everyone. I know I do! Having him as GM would seriously turn this franchise around. I would be willing to back that assumption with money and I am not a betting man.

Why?

Because Elway did it?

Seriously, enough of the remnants from the glory days. The good times are long over.

Is Aikman ready to take a GM job? It's not easy, full-time plus extra hours. What he has now is pretty amazing, he only works half a year on the weekends and finally the pay.. He makes 10x the amount with Fox vs being a GM.

He works a ton during the week too. Radio call in spots all over the country.

No...

Because Troy has proven time and time again that he a level headed person with strong perspective. He is part of Fox's A team and could frankly do that broadcast without Joe Buck around. He has cleanly transitioned from class a player to class a announcer. I have full confidence he could be a very good GM.

1. Any new GM would have to earn Jerry's trust .. Check

2. The person must know and understand the landscape at Valley Ranch... Check

3. The person must be passionate about everything Cowboys.. Check!

Screw Elway. Troy is a prefect fit.

If asked by Jerry, I bet he would take it in a heartbeat. He is in a very comfy spot with Fox but his heart will always be with the Boys.

Due to that trust/respect/familiarity factor, I actually believe this is one hire that would change Jerry. He meddles because he doesn't completely trust the status quo.

Troy would be far ans away better than Jerral except Jones would still meddle.

There would be no gig greater than GM of the Cowboys. This isn't for just anyone. Troy is very intriguing because of his longstanding relationship with Jerry. He would make that a position of strength because Jerry won't look over his shoulder the way he would with someone that doesn't have that history with him.

This was also on ESPN when I was at the gym, there were no subtitles on the channel but I was still watching.

Jerry does love to be trendy.... and with Elway leading Denver to the SB I am quite sure that Jerry is heavily considering making the move.

Question is whether Aikman would do it.

I would be extremely excited for the season if he did this. I won't get my hopes up though.

Troy is a great commentator and knows the problems with Dallas, that said if he came in I bet he would fix them...

I like the way you think.

I also think that the talent evaluation and focus on building the team as a solid competitor every year would be strengthened with Troy's ties to Jason, and vice versa.

I have a question though - hypothetically, lets say something like this happens. Or Jerry hires a "real football guy" and it's a complete and utter disaster. Like, a total unmitigated goat rodeo.

Then what?

By that time, it would be time for Jerry to really sit back and hand things over to Stephen. He is surely no spring chicken. So its a win win IMO. I believe Stephen would operate with a GM in place. I basically refuse to believe anything else.. Like the notion that Stephen is Jerry reincarnated and will serve an owner/GM role..

You know, if Jerry were to pass suddenly, does anybody think Stephen might make this move? With Jason still here and Troy in a GM capacity and Stephen helping with the cap (button it, Risen)...it could be interesting. Hypothetically.
