Either way I've watched Taylor numerous times, live and on television. I can tell you he does go for the homerun hit too much, rather than going for the interception or the wrap up, but I've seen him go for the wrap up tackles and be from one end of the feild to the other faster than Troy ever could.. even now in the nfl. Taylor does seem to have tight hips at times especially while back pedaling and looking for the ball, but if you know anything about draft scouting you would know how bad Troy got scrutinized is his last year at USC, for not making plays and being a play maker, everyone said he didn't have an eye for the ball. Now you have someone that is the closest PHYSICALLY to Sean Taylor there has ever been, and Sean Taylor is the best draft prospect not just saftey prospect, yes I said it draft prospect of ALL-TIME. Taylor 6'3 230 pounds running a 4.24, is the closest to Sean Taylor physically, no one had the ball-hawking ability or skills Sean had no one will, but Taylor has the same mould and killer instinct Sean did to lay his oppenent out, he needs to work on ball-hawking and going for the ball which is not hard learning your first year if you look what Troy did after his least year at USC.
I'm telling you LB Sean Lee, just another Bobby Carpenter will fall through the cracks, while we will regret taking a pro-bowl saftey. mock my words. Forget about regretting taking Randy Moss. This is the same thing we did when we passed on Stephen Jackson and took Julius Jones in the next round, after a top 10 caliber draft talent fell right into our arms.

Doomsday101;3379782 said:And Taylor Mays is nothing but a combine hero. I don't care if he runs a 4 flat he can't cover worth a damn. You are not thilled about Lee that's cool by the same token I'm thrilled Dallas did not waste a pick on Mays
joseephuss;3379816 said:What does Sean Lee have to do with this? Dallas drafted him after Taylor Mays was off the board. Drafting Lee or anyone in the second round did not matter since Dallas could not pick Mays at their pick in the second round. Dallas would have had to use their 1st round pick in order to get Mays.
Being big and fast does not make a person the best draft prospect ever. There have been and will continue to be guys who have good size and great speed. Mays is one of those, but can he play at a high level. Mays does not compare to Darren Woodson and Woodson was not a 1st round pick.
NeOnDeioN;3379827 said:As a junior in 2004, he posted 124 tackles, 5 interceptions and 75 deflections, catching 25 passes for 700 yards with 23 touchdowns and returning 12 punts for 392 yards with 10 touchdowns while earning Student Sports Junior All-American honors as a defensive back, wide receiver and quarterback
Hmm and that's just as a junior in high school, does that show he's a combine hero or that he loves football is dedicated and spends time in the gym, conditioning to the point, where he became the fastest player on the most prominent college team, and one of the strongest at 6'3 230 speciem, who did everything he was told to do in that system, Pete Carroll said himself Taylor did everything we asked of him, and Taylor always asked him what can i improve on, Pete's not the best coach to evolve a saftey, he will evolve into a ball-hawk in the nfl, trust me, he loves this game.
NeOnDeioN;3379840 said:But we could of traded up for him, instead of going for an injury prone 3rd tier linebacker we wont use, why not take a chance on a guy that has the abilities to become a pro bowler, who has more of a chance of become a pro-bowler or top tier player lee or mays, anyone would say mays.
Doomsday101;3379844 said:What does his high school numbers have to do with anything. No doubt he was more athletic than the kids he faced in high school. What I have seen at USC is poor play from him. I wish him the best because frankly I don't hate him but I also wanted no part of him in Dallas
Doomsday101;3378584 said:None of these topics are food off my plate, does not mean they will not be discussed.
TheCount;3379866 said:You're not discussing anything, you're proclaiming he sucks when it's pointless to do so. He's not a Cowboy and he's already in the NFL but you're still stuck criticizing his college play?
NeOnDeioN;3379862 said:If Roy Williams never played on Dallas you wouldn't be saying this. Everyone thinks he's a Roy williams clone, that's crazy he's nothing like Roy williams size wise, speed wise, Roy williams couldn't keep up with people blew coverage and couldnt catch them when they were a step ahead of them, that would NEVER happen with Taylor Mays, let the Roy williams thing go, not to mention Roy was a 5 time pro bowler with dallas. More than I could say than for 95% of the safties in the league, he got hurt, and before he got hurt he wasn't conditioning and got lazy, Taylor loves this game that would never happen
Doomsday101;3379889 said:Sorry I don't have the same affection of Mays as you do and yes I have watched him ample times at USC. Not impressed at all.

Greyman;3379947 said:Well, basically you pointed out all this guy's failings, so, my question is, what exactly did you see, besides "potential", which is a word that get's coaches fired a lot, that would give you any indication that he's going to be all that as a NFL safety?
To me, Taylor Mays is this season's Vernon Gholston, a guy with enormous combine workout numbers who's body of work in college didn't come close to matching all that athletic talent.
Ask the Jet's how they feel about drafting another workout warrior with a 1st or 2nd round draft pick again anytime soon.
I will give you this however: If Mays switches to LB, and plays the "will" in a true 4-3, AND works his tail off, he might be a solid player one day.
But as a true safety, even a box safety, he won't be more than a marginal starter at best.
NeOnDeioN;3379992 said:That's smart OLB that runs a 4.24, what was Vernon Gholston production in college? he was never an all-american. Taylor Mays had to be a 3 time ALL-AMERICAN at USC for his poor play? Who is going to get past Taylor on a fast route for a long touchdown in the nfl? Not many
Exactly when did someone out run Taylor Mays when he couldnt catch up with them from the goal-line refresh my memory :laugh2: :laugh2:Doomsday101;3380010 said:He had enough TD score aginst him at USC why would it get any easier in the Pros? :laugh2:
