He wasn't the best draft prospect of all time, not even close. You could even argue he wasn't the best safety prospect in 2004. So, we continue the ongoing theme of this thread, what the heck are you talking about? I don't think anyone knows at this point.

lol Can someone please tell me what this guy is talking about?:laugh2:

Still waiting to see the answer to why Pete Carrol took Thomas over the Boy wonder. Hell Seahawks drafted 2 safeties neither one named Mays :laugh2:

Earl Thomas is a differnt player special coverage wise... in my opinion has another Reggie Nelson.. think about it.

After selecting Thomas, Carroll said "the Texas standout had special coverage skills that elevated him in the eyes of Seahawks scouts".

"We really wanted to pick Taylor and that were our plans, we didn't expect Earl to fall to us"

Taylor -"Just in terms of, I didn't have anything to worry about, that my game was OK, that my backpedaling was fine, my tackling was fine," he said. "It's all things that I asked. What do I need to work on? What do I need to show? All these points and I was kind of led to think that I would have been OK."now

Now can you tell me what he is talking about?

Yeah Thomas can cover a WR unlike Mays.

So now you change your story to he 'would've' been the best safety of all time. That's convenient, but still wrong (there's more evidence proving Taylor was average than anything close to the greatest of all time). I think you need to get a new crystal ball cause that one ain't working.

You post your little statline as if they prove something. The only thing they prove is the Commanders couldn't stop the run...

If Dallas didn't have such a great run defense (most of the time) Roy Williams would've put up similar stats. I guess he woulda been the greatest safety of all time! Again, you really don't have a clue.

Hm, let me see if my stupid to english translator is working...

A safety that makes that many tackles isn't doing it near the line of scrimmage, he's doing it at the second level because his front 7 is being gashed continually. That's not really anything to get out your pom-poms about.

BTW, extremeskins.com is that way... ---->

LoL what is he talking about... ?? HE is argubaly the best draft prospect of all-time and IS the best Saftey prospect of all-time no doubt ....

Question is what is this guy talking about in the red?

Sean Taylor is the best Saftey Draft prospect of all-time no doubt. I said he is arguably the best Draft prospect of all time in terms of pure talent and nfl ready... no one was more ready... and this guy is saying he might not even of been the best saftey prospect of 2004???:lmao2: :lmao2: :lmao2:

Seems pretty simple to me he is saying Sean Taylor was not the greatest NFL draft propect of all time that is true I can think of alot of players who got much more attention than Taylor. As for safety draft prospect Washington felt he was worth a 5th then again Cleveland felt Eric Turner was worth a 2nd overall pick

That's ridiculous don't lie to yourself bro he is the best Saftey Prospect of all time... ask any expert.. and as far as not being best in 2004 is too funny:lmao2: :lmao2:

I'm not, you are giving your own view he went with a 5th overall Eric Turner went with a 2nd overall I think Cleveland put more value in Turner and by the way Turner numbers over the same amont of time was better than Taylor. I don't know who you get your info and the only thing funny here is you and these wild tales you seem to have.

neon, what are you smoking? Must cost a lot.

No, I think he is hooked on the cheap stuff and it is rotting his brain.

Who cares if someone is a great draft prospect? It is what you do on Sundays that matters. Tony Mandarich could be considered one of the greatest draft prospects, but he was nothing on game day. Sean Taylor was a good player and unfortunately his career was cut short. Still during his playing time he was not a top 5 safety in the league. Mays will be at best an average safety.

Ken Easley was the best Safety Prospect I've ever seen. I'd say that either Eric Turner or Sean Taylor would be next. Mays isn't even the best Safety prospect USC has ever produced IMO.

Size- at 6'2 1/2, 230 lbs, he was bigger than most linebackers and as Troy Aikman said "Sean Taylor's basically a linebacker playing safety with coverage skills."

-Instincts- smart in coverage, would bait QBs into making bad throws, and he was quick to recognize action,

-Speed- ran about a 4.45 at 230 but straight line speed was probably the weakest point of his agility arsenal

-Range- NOONE came close to covering as much ground in the secondary as Taylor

-Transitional Quickness- just like his range, his hips and quickness were unparalleled, he was so fluid in his movements, could've been a great corner

-Tackling/Physicality- He was the hardest hitter in the league, and a solid tackler

-Physicality- again, noone was as physically dominating as Mr Taylor

-Ball Skills- great hands, made extremely athletic moves to the ball, and having a 41" vert didn't hurt

Offensive- when he made an INT or picked up a fumble, he had the vision of a RB. He scored 44 rushing TDs in his senior year of HS

Swagger- He played with a swagger that intimidated everybody and put fear into his opponents, as Dick Enberg said " When Sean Taylor is in the neighborhood, you will FEEL him"

He was an athlete generations ahead of his time, and I wonder if we will ever see another safety with his skill set and athleticism

Troy didn't become an elite Safety by being lucky. He has a nose for the ball. Troy just makes plays because he COMPLETELY understands every facet of LeBeau's defense. Very coachable guy.

I doubt Mays will ever be able to play up to Troy's level.

P.S. I hate the Steelers.

He has a nose for the ball now after a few years in the league... when he was at USC his last year he couldn't even rack up 1 interception, with training and coaching he become as good as he is, just like Taylor will.

Mays is very coachable one of the most humble and well disiplined kids Carroll has ever coached... Carroll does not know how to coach a saftey or prepare one for the NFL BOTTOM LINE.

"He played too far off the ball, he was responsible for too much ground, he was expected to make up for the mistakes of others," wrote the bloggers. Mays refused to buy into the criticism, saying he was doing what Carroll told him to do. It was a story he stuck to all season, because, he says, he believed and trusted that Carroll was doing the best thing for him and for the team.
In hindsight, he says, he realizes the scheme probably didn't prepare him for the draft, and the fact that he wasn't a defensive playmaker because of it is likely what hurt him most. Still, he ran a blistering 40 at the combine (4.23 to 4.43 depending on whose watch you were watching) and was, by just about everybody's standards, still an incredible athlete.
Obviously it wasn't enough.
"I wish I would have known why I wouldn't be taken in the first round," he said Friday, "At least have been shown what I needed work on. Here's my head coach, the person I trust most, telling me I had nothing to worry about and then I'm worrying about it [when it's too late] because I'm not getting picked."

Mays says all year he had continually asked Carroll what he needed to do to get better, what deficiencies he needed to correct to prove to scouts that he was the brightest, fastest, most physical safety in the country; to maintain the lofty status he had achieved the year before.
"[Pete] kept saying, 'Taylor, you'll be fine. You're fine,' " Mays said. "Obviously that wasn't the case."
