QB Colin Kaepernick (6-6, 225), Nevada: Joined Newton and Tim Tebow as the only three players in NCAA FBS history to total 20 TDs rushing and 20 TDs receiving in a single-season. Kaepernick has a rifle for an arm, is extremely athletic and is fresh off leading Nevada to its best season in school history. He also throws a 90-mph fastball and has a reputation as a hard-worker who knows how to lead.
RB Delone Carter (5-8, 219), Syracuse: Mark Ingram will be the first tailback off the board, but Carter could make a big leap with a good performance in Indianapolis. His 198-yard, two-touchdown rushing performance in poor conditions against Kansas State in the Pinstripe Bowl had to catch the eye of scouts, as did his second straight 1,000-yard rushing season playing on a talent-starved Syracuse team. Carter needs to impress with his speed and receiving skills during workouts to move up boards.
WR/KR Jerrel Jernigan (5-9, 190), Troy: Jernigan’s college coach, Larry Blakeney, told me two years ago that he wouldn’t trade Jernigan for any receiver in the country. Yeah, he might be a relative obscure name at the moment, but rest assured, he will be a hot commodity come draft day. Jernigan has great hands, can run after the catch and doubles as an electrifying kick and punt returner. He played hurt during the 2009 campaign and still racked up 2,264 total yards (266 rushing, 1,101 receiving, 897 kick returns). He scored 11 times in 2010.
