Portis wrote the book with the Duke in mind. He also said after the movie was done that that was what he wanted.

I am a huge fan of John Wayne and like him much more than Jeff Bridges.

But Bridges is a better actor.

Maybe because Wayne was such a dynamic personality that he did not need to act ..... maybe not.

The man is a Legend ...... and I do not believe liking the new movie is any disrespect toward him.
