Witten and Ware both retire as Cowboys having never gotten past the first round of the playoffs. That is after 2009 when they went to the second round.

False, Ware is going to be a cap casualty in the next ~2 years. Maybe Witten too.

They did get past the first round but not the second. Yet.

That's right. They have gotten past the first round twice--once by winning a playoff game and once by earning a bye by dominating the regular season--both equally impressive, imo.
The depressing part is thay've never gone further.
