Race For 4th CB Spot Now Intensifies

Attention Jamar Wall and Bryan McCann. Same goes for Cletis Gordon and Marquis Floyd. Now, it’s not like these guys weren’t already focused on the task at hand, but the latest finger injury to Orlando Scandrick, which will keep him out until training camp, should open the door for one of these other cornerbacks to shine.
Don’t expect any of the aforementioned players to be taking Scandrick’s job as the third corner. But in the remaining OTA practices and the June 11-13 mini-camp, a new spot has opened up for all of them to compete.
Ideally, draft picks usually get the nod in this case. The Cowboys will likely give Wall every chance to prove himself. And since the first rookie minicamp practice back in early May when he had trouble just staying on his feet, much less covering anyone, the rookie from Texas Tech has picked things up in these OTAs and now he’ll get a chance to do even more.
Also, McCann has flashed some good things as well, and of course, Gordon and Floyd have more league experience so they should be a little further down the road.
Now, all of this is assuming the Cowboys even keep four cornerbacks. While three sounds rather light at the position, the Cowboys do have Alan Ball. Although he is the leading candidate to win the free safety job, he could slide into corner in a pinch and the Cowboys could then replace him at safety. That’s not exactly ideal, but when it gets down to a numbers game at the end of camp and the Cowboys are trying to get the best 53 players, there may not be room for a fourth cornerback.
However, if so, this is a great opportunity for someone to stand out from the pack.
