Clinton Portis expresses doubt that he will play in the season opener Monday night against the Vikings.
-- Washington Post

The San Diego Chargers were reportedly interested in QB Billy Volek before final cuts, but no deal materialized, and Volek said Thursday, "None have been presented to me" in terms of trade offers.
-- Nashville City Paper

It's Jerry Porter who demanded a trade from the Raiders. That doesn't mean one won't be consummated between now and the league trading deadline Oct. 17. If not, there's a distinct possibility that Porter might wind up like Marcus Allen and have to resurrect his career elsewhere.
-- Contra Costa Times

Cowboys kicker Mike Vanderjagt, who struggled in the preseason with consistency and a strained groin, has practiced all week. Bill Parcells said it will be a gameday decision between Vanderjagt and backup kicker Shaun Suisham. The Cowboys will not dress two kickers. Parcells said he needs the roster spot for another position. So if Vanderjagt plays, he will also have to kick off, which is not his strength.
-- Fort Worth Star-Telegram

A massive payday awaits Colts DE Dwight Freeney at the end of the season. Unrestricted free agency and its lucrative possibilities -- maybe a long-term contract making Freeney the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history, or maybe being designated a "franchise" player -- will have to wait.
-- Indianapolis Star

If the Cardinals' plan comes to fruition, Kurt Warner will stay healthy, the team will win, and Matt Leinart, the 10th overall pick in the NFL draft, will stand on the sideline and watch. Two things could change that: Warner suffering an injury or the Cardinals losing. That would mark the beginning of the Leinart era.
-- Arizona Republic

Former Seahawks WR Peter Warrick had a tryout with the Lions on Wednesday.
-- Seattle Times

If T.J. Houshmandzadeh can't play or is limited, Chris Henry is likely to get the start or additional playing time. Houshmandzadeh's absence would be a blow to the Bengals, because he is especially adept at making defenses pay for double-teaming Chad Johnson.
-- Cincinnati Enquirer

A burger joint drive-thru worker called police after Lions assistant coach Joe Cullen allegedly pulled his SUV up to the window and placed an order in the nude. On Thursday, the Lions suspended Cullen for Sunday's season opener against the Seahawks, the Free Press has learned. Cullen, however, is expected to continue to coach the defensive line during practices.
-- Detroit Free Press

Tedy Bruschi took a step toward suiting up Sunday by participating in the team's full-pads workout. The number of drills in which Bruschi participated is unknown, and at what intensity he worked. On their injury report released yesterday afternoon, the Patriots noted Bruschi missed at least a portion of team-specific drills.
-- Boston Globe

Coach Jon Gruden declared top draft choice Davin Joseph sidelined for Sunday's season opener against Baltimore with a "sprained knee" suffered during Wednesday's practice.

Gruden said Joseph's availability would be evaluated on a weekly basis, but he did not rule out surgery for the former Oklahoma standout.

But he did not forget his wallet. :laugh2: He may have forgotten his pants but not the wallet.

Maybe he has one of those keychain credit cards.

I think Lions assistant coach Joe Cullen is suffering from nudist colony withdrawal symptoms.

If you're going to drive nude you should at least avoid human contact.

I've dropped a few piping hot fast food fries on my lap to know you never use the drive up window naked. I prefer dine-in naked.

I honestly don't see how this guy will still be effective as a coach. How can the players take him seriously now? Imagine the barbs this dude is taking in the locker room these days.

Maybe he already was coaching in the nude, so it's not that big of a deal to the players.

Although they probably wish he wasn't such a hands-on coach.

Captain Oveur: You ever been in a cockpit before?
Joey: No sir, I've never been up in a plane before.
Captain Oveur: You ever seen a grown man naked?

It makes you wonder how the Lions could even take Joe Cullen back without having him undergo a psychological evaluation or some sort of admonishment including a suspension. And what about a response from the NFL itself.

Hmm, I am wondering if this guy lost some sort of bet and this is how he had to pay for it. A few decades ago Cullen would be typecast as a loser or practical joker. Nowadays you can be declared insane or you are a sexual offender if you cruise through a drive-thru naked....

I wonder what burger joint he drove through. In'N'Out? Ok I'll stop...

Then again, he could become a cult classic faster than "Snakes On A Plane" did.
