Trying to find positives

Lost in all of this are a few positives...

1) Our D is legit. As poorly as we played yesterday on offense, our D played lights out. This is will several rookies and missing our starting CB. Heck, Davis even made a play at FS (called back by the refs). If we can get Fujita/Burnett straightened out - we're in really good shape.

2) "If" and it's still a big question in my mind - we make the playoffs, we could very well end up facing the Gints again. Hopefully this *** Wipping will be remembered and our coaching staff and Offense show up ready to play. I didn't think we'd have a chance to sweep the Gints and beat them in the playoffs, so I'd rather take the loss now and hope for the best during the playoffs.

This should serve as a wakeup call for the players and coaches. We've been barely getting by and that's not going to cut it come Jan.

We were embarrased yesterday, even thought the final score doesn't reflect it. TIme to turn it around.

To me, the biggest positive has to be that despite being outplayed and being down 17-0 at one point, the team battled back and the game ended up in a pretty respectable manner. The Cowboys have yet to lose a game by more than a TD this year, and that is the biggest positive I can think of.

My positives:

- Dallas outplayed NY Giants in the second half, IMHO (sans the fumbled handoff).

- The defense did a helluva job without Henry.

- They know the areas that need to be addressed in the offseason and thankfully they are at positions that are typically easy to find (center, right guard, free safety, blocking tight end, fullback)

- If Reeves doesn't get jobbed I think he's a pretty decent CB for Dallas in the future.

- I don't think Julius and Marion are the problems with the running game. Get the Center and right guard straightened out and Bledsoe will be able to pass the ball and it will open lanes for the RB's.

- We ran a few successful passing plays to Julius.

- If the refs could call a hold, the pressure would've been pretty good.

Just look where we were last year. If that doesn't make you feel better nothing will.
Too many folks around here have sky high hopes. We start to play better and everyone all of the sudden has a Superbowl or nothing mentality. It is just not very realistic.

My expection at the start of the year was 9-7.....I say we go 10-6 and do better than my prediction. So what is wrong with 9-7 or 10-6???

We have made some huge upgrades this year. Defense is not yet dominate, but certainly showing signs of it. We are a FS and LB away from having a Championship type D.

Offense needs some work. I believe the greatest hole to be the C and not the OT's. While I do believe we need to improve on both positions, the C is more important to the run game.

Other areas to upgrade are WR and FB. We need a true FB to lead block.

My current wish list:

O-Line: Fill this weakness through FA...do not use early draft picks.
LB: Needs another difference maker. Use first pick on this.
QB: Do not waste any picks on this years QB's.....OVER-RATED!!!
Take a run at Quinn next year. I don't care what the cost is..get him.
Kicker: Free agency...Mr. Vanderjagt welcome to Dallas.
Draft.....LB/FS/WR in that order.

defense, defensive line, linebackers and secondary are all top of the line. defense wins championships, we'll see if that's still true.

Preseason expectations were based upon several things.

Most expected 8-8 to 10-6, that's true. But that was expecting a defense that was learning and a respectable running game.

What is so shocking and sad is that it is the exact opposite and the missed opportunities for wins (Seattle, Washington, Denver) make it that much worse.

As someone said, Julius has made great strides in his pass receiving ability. He is looking much more comfortable catching the ball and I think had a nice solid all around game yesterday, despite the Oline!!

Jacques Reeves got plenty of playing time and played well. He needs the valuable game time experience. It is a positive when young guys can get in the game.
