They should not tag Dak if he isn't invested long term to this team's goals. Apparently being overpaid is more important to him.
Just like with Zeke, D-Law, Zack and a few others. Are you willing to cut bait with them, too?

Dak is only going to cost us 27 million on Tag. That’s about where he should be. Then we will push it forward to 2021.

In the meantime maybe we can place ourselves in better position for Plan B next year.

You don't know that. Dak is going to command a minimum of $40M in 2021 if he plays on the tag in 2020. Jerry should know that's just not feasible. It's better to cut bait now.

If he doesn't have a long playoff run or SB what would change? He would again ask to be the highest paid QB in the league, they would tag him again for one season if they have to then let him go ala Kirk Cousing or just let him walk after the season. In order to get what he would want (40m+) then he would absolutely need to produce this coming season if he plays on the tag, another think he won't be able to do if it goes that route is hold out, it's going to be a new offense and he will have to learn it he can't walk in late or hold out a few games into the season then just walk in and pick it up like it was the same offense he has played under these past 4 seasons. He is 26 years old he should take a 5-6 year deal now when it is up (proabably a year before it is up he can re-negotiate) he will be 31 years old and sign another deal for 50m+ per season if he proves his worth, his agents are trying to line him up for 2 more deals after this one and that will never happen, he will get this deal and one more after it unless he proves to be a Brees or Brady and can play into his 40's

It's all opinion, we just disagree. I would not indulge his greed.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Best case is that Dallas signs Tannehill or trades for Stafford or something and trades Dak for multiple picks. Outside of that, I don't see a good scenario. Dak isn't going to take a deal that doesn't badly hamstring the franchise. Its going to be Romo all over again. OTOH just letting him walk with no replacement puts the team in the dirt for a few years looking for the next guy.

Personally, I think that the current teams' window is closed. It was wasted with Garrett. The Tank, Zeke and Jaylon deals are awful already for declining players. Its to the point where blowing it up now and dumping players for picks is probably the smart course of action. I just don't see the team putting together elite talent with so many bloated contracts on the rolls.
