Tucker at RT: maybe the bashers are WRONG!

Bill Parcells' patience with struggling offensive tackle Torrin Tucker might be surprising, but not so if you realize that football people still think the third-year player has the physical tools to play the position in the NFL. They think he is the most powerful of the Cowboys tackle candidates.

Tucker bashers from the Zone step up.....MYSELF included! Maybe we should slack off on Tucker and pull for him to get it all together--MENTALLY because physically he must be better then Flozel--am I reading this correctly?

The pluses if Tucker makes the team:
1. we don't have to worry about a starting RT
2. we don't have to waste a draft pick on that position
3. Bledsoe may not get killed from the right side
4. Small salary cap number

Tucker has struggled all offseason. He struggled last year and was benched midway through the season. It doesn't matter how "powerful" he is if he can't translate that to the field and learn the mental aspects of the game.

I also believe Parcells is just trying to motivate Tucker by giving him some encouragement while Rogers, who was pencilled in as the starter, is in doubt. No use writing the guy off until you know you can do without him.

Parcells also said that Vollers could step in and play RT if he needed to but that he would rather keep the versatile player available to backup either OT spot when needed and not have to move him from RT to LT if Adams goes down AND then have to replace him at RT.

Tucker will NOT be the starter at RT this year and will likely not make the team unless Rogers is a total washout.

They're comparing him to the candidates for RT. That doesn't include FLozell Adams.

Tucker was a great player in college and was one of the highest ranked OG's coming into the draft. He went undrafted. Now I know why. I had high hopes for him. But he's nothing more than a bench player with a bad head.

He's got no brains and can't take the mental game of the NFL. Bledsoe will retire next season if Tucker is playing RT.

I don't think it's fair to say he has "No brains". That's pretty harsh. Anyone and everyone is capable of learning, there's just different ways to "reach" different people. They haven't found how to reach Tucker yet. Maybe they never will, but not only is it incorrect to say he has "No brains" but it's uncalled for as well.

Plus, would it be a bad thing if Bledsoe retires next season? From where I'm sitting, it would be a good thing. I just don't want him to have to retire due to injury.

Tucker was benched in favor of Vollers in the second Eagles game. Well past the "midway" point of the season.

I just don't agree that he "can't" learn, that he "won't" get better...

Sue we all have wanted him to develop quicker but he was a OG now he is learning to become a RT...

Sounds like Parcells is still hoping he develops further and so do I...

Sounds like BP has written off Rodgers and Tucker is his last hope to have an above average RT skill wise. Petitti has all the tools, but clearly he's a year or two project.

Do you think if Rogers had been solid so far, with no issues, Parcells would be defending Tuckers play last Sat?

Parcells has three weeks to plug some glaring holes on this team, not much time.

More proof us Tucker bashers maybe eating our words...his only had two errors all year (ref below) and we saw them Saturday:

San Antonio Express-News

Parcells singles out Tucker's improvement

Don't count Torrin Tucker out of the running to start at right tackle just yet.

That was the message coach Bill Parcells delivered Tuesday when he went out of his way to praise the third-year player, whose tendency to commit mental errors cost him his hold on the spot last season.

"I want to stick up for a guy here," Parcells said during a news conference at training camp in Oxnard, Calif. "We had an inordinate number of mental errors at that position last year. But in all of the scrimmages we've had here and in the 47 plays he had in (Saturday's preseason opener against Arizona), he's had only two mental errors."

Parcells also praised Tucker's efforts to keep his weight under control. The 6-foot-6, 315-pound player started 13 games last season.

First of all, I'm not a hater, I'm not a basher.. I'm just asking questions. Which, BTW I notice you didn't answer.

Let me add this. Thinking in a game situation is a little different than a scrimmage.

Time will tell. I hope it works out, because the thought of a glaring weakness on the OL "AGAIN" this year, sickens me.

Then this post was not directed towards YOU.......

No I don't, because Tuckers play most likely would not have been so magnified!

Pettiti will start at RT Tucker has had plenty of time to become solid and if he can't do it now he never will.

The sooner he's off the team, the better.

This is Year 3 for him and he has regressed.

Is there a point to this thread or do you just enjoy reposting bland articles about braindead offensive linemen?

The "point" is that Parcells obviously still believes in Tucker or he is at least sending that type of message. Right? Maybe Tucker is not done.....

I bashed Tucker from coming to mini-camp overweight, for getting abused by "Pepper" in a scrimmage, and for his muliple penalties versus AZ.

That said, I HOPE I'm 100% WRONG and Tucker turns out fine.

That said, I think we only keep 4 OTs on the roster. I think Flo, Vollers, and Petitti definitely make it, assuming no injuries (fingers crossed). Flo makes it for obvious reasons, Vollers because he can play both sides, and Petitti because he seems to have solid potential and BP is giving him a shot to even start this year. Appears to me that BP likes Petitti.

The last spot would seem to be between Rogers and Tucker.

What about Andre Gurode? Should he be off the team? He has regressed. Hell, wasn't he a 2nd round pick? Tucker is an undrafted free agent. Anything he gives us will be a bonus.

midway through the season? I thought it was just the final 3 games, after our season was basically over anyway.

Rogers and Tucker will both make the team...I'm expecting 5 OT's since any of them could move inside and play OG in a pinch.

I was under the impression that Gurode was playing much better this camp. And, unlike Tucker, he at least stayed in shape during the off-season.

You have more invested in a second-round pick than an undrafted free agent, so perhaps you give him more time.
