With Tucker manning the RT position in 2004....
-we lost less than 200 yards to sacks.
-Testaverde was NOT one of the top 10 most sacked QBs.
-Testaverde had a 60% completion percentage with over 3500 yards and that was without Terry Glenn.
-we had a rookie RB rush for an average of more than 4 yards per carry and 6+ TDs.

I could go on but the point being... we had these achievements while Tucker was in that was WITHOUT Marco Rivera on his left and Dan Campbell on his right.

Just looking on the bright side for a change.

Good perspective, Qwickdraw. Wayne Motley posted a similar opinion and I agree with both of you. Although, if he doesn't stop the holding penalties, he's going to cost us games.

That was because running to the LEFT was over 1 YPC better than running to the RIGHT.

It would indeed be nice if running to the right was a legit option.

Props on the thread title, QD...had to read it several times for it to 'compute' :)

Of course the bright side of TT is he has so much in the way of physical credentials, that Bill hasn't been able to give up on him.

Bright side of Torrin to me tho is this:

1) When he knows what down it is

2) When the penalites aren't both mutiple AND consecutive

3) When Tuna even considers running right

Teams knew that if it was an important running play we were going left. That is not a good thing. They also knew that they could probably guarantee that they could get pressure from the right. We really need to be able to have balance running- with Rivera and Campbell over there that should be possible.

It has been a while Pops. We need to get the RT worked out and once we can be a danger running to either side, it'll obviously do wonders.

The kid in an interveiw said he loved his teammates and he would die for them.If Big Bill is not ready to give up on him and his teammates are standing by him, then I'm rootin' hard for him.

I'll be surprised if Pettitti beats him out for the starting spot, but if he does, I'll be very very pleasantly surprised to see a young guy that might be able to hold the spot for years to come.

couldn't that have a lot to do with Gurode as well?

besides, when the day comes that we run away from Larry Allen better than towards him will be the end of a great career.

The scarry part about this is that if this becomes a habit (holding) it has a way of being looked at closer by the refs.

Does the name POSDEREK come to mind?

Yes having the underachieving Gurode on one side and NOT having the best blocking TE in the game on the other was very probably a big factor in the difference in the ypc to each side. Add to that the fact that to the other side we had Adams a pro bowler and Allen one of the all time great OLinemen and probable HoF player were on the other side. All this combines to tell me that it was not all on Tucker.

Certainly Tucker has some improvements to make and he is still prone to mental mistakes. But I am not so sure that he could not hold down the RT spot for us again this year. However, it is also very possible that Pettiti will develop quickly enough to take the spot from him; if so that is a good thing since an upgrade is an upgrade.
