Notable Standouts:

  • Doug FreeThe veteran tackle enjoyed a nice practice, perhaps even better than camp standout Tyron Smith. The Raiders sent their three best pass rushers – Justin Tuck, Khalil Mack and Lamarr Woodley – against the Cowboys offensive line, and Free excelled. He stymied Tuck during his only rep of one-on-one drills, and he stuffed the explosive young Mack later on.
  • Morris Claiborne – It stood out to see Claiborne lead the charge for the defense during one of his first day’s back from injury. He wasn’t remotely hesitant to dump Rivera, who weighs in at a solid 6-3, 245 pounds. Cowboys coaches probably don’t want to see fights, but Claiborne’s willingness to hit is encouraging.
  • Jeremy MinceyMincey was one of the only Dallas defensive linemen who excelled in individual work against the Oakland offensive line. He got plenty of reps against the Raiders tackles, and he got around them a variety of ways – both slipping past them and bull rushing them to the ground.

Good to hear on Mincey. Don't know if we should read too much into it, though, since it was individual work where the defenders have more room to operate, but I'd rather hear this than Mincey was dominated.

Keep an eye on Boatright too, some people are saying looks like last years Selvie.

Don’t know a ton about Kenneth Boatright, the defensive end the Cowboys signed on Aug. 1, but he just keeps making plays. Like all the time. Definitely the surprise of camp for me. Can’t believe the Seahawks let him go. Have heard a few people in Oxnard drop the George Selvie comparison in terms of a guy coming out of nowhere, off-the-street, and making a real impact. Rod Marinelli loves having an eight-man rotation with his defensive linemen and at this point, I can’t imagine Boatright not being among that group.

These reports can be misleading. The video where the tweet claimed that Mack beat Tyron, showed that it took him 5 seconds to get loose. The pass rusher is losing if he can't get there in 3 seconds.

Although, Free did maintain his block, Mack pushed him into the QB area right at 3 seconds. The QB would probably have had to step up in that situation.

Against Tyron, the video showed that Mack was not remotely close the the QB area for 5 seconds.

Yeah....Tyron's job was much better than Free's but the media somehow wants to take a shot at Smith

Exactly. Given enough time, I'm sure even Nick Hayden could eventually get past Tyron. Though we're probably talking 30+ seconds in this case.

Was the entire article only 3 short paragraphs? Aren't we supposed to link to other sources?

Helman is appropriately named. Dude looks like he eats copious amounts of mayonnaise.

Broaddus and a few others call him Tiny Jim or Little Jim...not sure about the origin of the nick name.

These daily fights are stupid and I'm surprised neither staff hasn't put a stop to it.
