If we want a FS this year, it's either Jason Allen or Pat Watkins. Both big, tall, fast, quick , and can cover.

40 times from the 2nd group of DB's:

Donte Whitner - 4.4
Ko Simpson - 4.45
Danieal Manning - 4.46
Richard Marshall - 4.42
Dee Webb - 4.41
Pat Watkins - 4.42
Gerrick McPhearson - 4.42
David Pittman - 4.44
Derick Martin - 4.45

Not as fast as the 1st group but still fast.

Notes about both corner groups:

Daniel Bullocks was the most impressive S outside of Michael Huff that I saw today. He ran a sub 4 40...He benched 225 18 times...And he was one of the smoothest in the DB coverage drills where they look at your hips. He's jumped to 4th on my safety board. I think he could be picked ahead of Bing depending on if the team drafting needs a SS or a FS. He finished in the top 5 in several of the agility drills as well.

Ko Simpson finished in the top 5 in his vertical, which was a 40.5, but didn't have another top 5 finish in any of the other agility drills. I haven't heard any commentary or see any of the hip drills to make a determination on him either though. I think he's still only going to be picked at 22 at the earliest.

Bing didn't run a 40 but participated in agility drills and coverage drills. He was impressive with a couple of top 5 finishes, but Bullocks was better.

Donte Whitner lead his group in almost every single group. He put up very good times in every drill. He's a 1st rounder to me. I was really starting to feel that way about him before the combine, but I definitely do now. I think he's ahead of Simpson.

Jason Allen has really helped his stock . He is definitely a 2nd rounder and could move up if a team desires him to be a CB over a S.

This is a deep class of fast DB's...I look for a ton of them to be taken in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

Here's how I now rank the OLB class:

1. A.J. Hawk
2. Manny Lawson
3. Ernie Sims
4. Chad Greenway
5. Bobby Carpenter
6. Thomas Howard
7. DeMeco Ryans

I have Carpenter, Howard and Ryans falling into the 2nd round.

Here's my Safety rankings:

1. Michael Huff
2. Donte Whitner
3. Ko Simpson
4. Daniel Bullocks
5. Darnell Bing

I have Allen rated among CBs because of his combine. I think he'll be thought of as a corner. I have him going early in the 2nd round though since he burned out a 4.36.

I was glad to see Whitner do well. He played lights out this year. He was used alot in the box and blitzing. It seems he has the physical ability to play deeper, but I think he was just so effective close to the line of scrimmage thats where they kept him even though he could have probably played deeper.

I watched Allen every Saturday @ UT...He's a player, but had a pretty bad hip injury from what I remember and at one point was considered somewhat of a longshot to play again. Obviously can still run though, so it may not be a problem. I'm always leery of bad past injuries, tho.

I wonder why more people aren't talking about Thomas Howard ? The kid looks the part of an all world OLB . Right now the 3 LB/DEs that have my interest are M. Lawson , K. Wimbley , and T. Howard .

At safety I'd have to agree with J. Allen , and I've also got D. Whitner , P. Watkins , and D. Bullocks on my list .

I agree... Howard could be a big-time player...

He has all the tools, he just doesn't come from a top-flight program...

I think the OLB's and Safeties are stacking up very similarly. Guys like DeMeco Ryans, Thomas Howard, Ernie Sims, Bobby Carpenter, and Greenway are all in that mix to be taken between picks 20 and 32. You know at least one of those guys are going to fall hard simply because there's so many of them, but it's tough to distinguish which are the best prospects of the group.

With safeties, now it's Bing, Simpson, Whitner, and even Bullocks and Allen are in the conversation to be taken in the late first. I think Simpson's so-so combine would make him a reach to Dallas or San Diego (the 2 places he's projected to most often), but either team could still take him because both have big needs at the position. However, I could see any of those safeties getting hot between now and the draft and moving to the top of the group.
