If all three are there with our pick in the first round, which one do you take and why?

Tuitt What scare me about Tuitt is also what I like about him. He is a bit of a tweener that can move inside on third down, but though he is athletic, he isn't very explosive and doesn't have a great burst.

Ealy wins the battle of upside, but can he be counted on from day one?

Murphy is the safest pick. He is a jack of all trades, equally adept at shutting down the run as rushing the passer but I don't think he will ever be a high level sack machine. May be the smartest and most ready of the three.

So, who would you go with?

If I had to take one of the three I take Murphy. I would to know who else is there. I might rather go LB, OL, or DT. Not a huge fan of all 3.

I am really just looking for defining characteristics of the three. I don't really like any of them either and don't think any are solid first round talent.

Murphy would be the last one of the three that I would take.

Depending on how he measures out, I would probably make Ealy the priority with Tuitt right behind him. I don't think Murphy has a ceiling anywhere close to either of those guys, to be honest.

what i like about murphy is the fact he spends so much time in coverage and still has good sack numbers, ealy probably has much more upside. i like tuitt but if all 3 are there when we pick i suspect we would trade down and still get one of them

Tuitt would be "inside" on all downs in a 4-3. He is 6-6, 312.

Ealy, Tuitt, an Murphy. In that order.

Ealy has the highest ceiling, although Tuitt is not far behind. Murphy is a guy with a constant motor who will play hard on every snap, but doesn't have the athleticism or potential the other two have.

I actually like all 3.

Tuitt would be a DT in the majority of 4-3 schemes IMO. He'd be a DE in the 3-4 or in heavy goal line/short yardage packages in the 4-3. Similar size to Hatcher...and a pretty good athlete.

Ealy has the size to potentially play either side, and the most upside/athleticism. Missouri has also produced some very good D-Linemen recently with guys like Smith and Richardson. Had 3.5 sacks while playing with Richardson and Sam in 2012...but improved to 9.5 sacks in 2013.

While Murphy might not be as 'quick twitch' as others, he possesses enough athleticism to have thrived as a 3-4 OLB in Stanford's scheme at 6-6/260+lbs...while facing some pretty good athletes from Oregon, SC, etc. He also lined up with his hand in the dirt. Perhaps Murphy could be had following a trade down similar to last year?

I don't know the players. But I do know the scheme. Keywords such as "high motor," "undersized," and "pass rusher" are going to characterize whoever we go after.

That's actually not such a bad thing as the size issue generally makes people drop a bit

Kony Ealy and I break my legs trying to turn the card in.

Kony Ealy
Trent Murphy
Stephon Tuitt

Ealy will be a top class pass rusher from the strong side imo.

Kony Ealy is my first choice as well. I just have a feeling that Ealy has the perfect combination in regards to speed & power to help us out on Defense if choosing between the 3.

Kony Ealy all day. He's kind of raw, but definitely has the highest ceiling. Could develop into a Terrell Suggs type player...

Trent Murphy reminds me of DE Paul Kruger; a guy who does everything well but nothing great.

Tuitt doesn't seem like a good fit for our current defensive scheme. Looks like more of a 5 tech to me...

Hoping to come out of the first round with 1 of those 3 is an excellent strategy and hopefully Jerry feels that way as well. My only concern with Tuitt is that he'll be a 4-3 DT, which isn't a dealbreaker by any means.

What I like about Murphy is the fact he never stops and has the bet pass rushing moves. He crashes the line as Ealy gives up if the ball is ran on the other side. Ealy also doesn't have many pass rush moves or gets his hand up. Murphey is alittle like Watt as he knows how to get in the passing lanes and use his length to bat balls. I would take Murphy all day over Ealy.

Substitute Hageman for Murphy and you got my top 3.

I see 4 or 5 DE's in the 2nd or 3rd that can rush the passer just as well, if not better, than Murphy. Crichton, Lawrence, Chris Smith, Marcus Smith, Kareem Martin....in my opinion you take away a good amount of Murphy's value in the 4-3. I see him as a Connor Barwin type of 3-4 OLB.
