Turpin as WR 2 or 3

FYI, Jerry said during the Day 3 Post-Draft Press Conference that Will McClay was pounding the table for Jaydon Blue every day for 7 days before the Draft started. That shows how badly Will McClay in agreement with Coach Schottenheimer wanted Jaydon Blue and why Blue would be so important to helping Dak and this Cowboys offense. It starts at the 4:30 minute mark in the video below...

No idea........but he's no good to us as a 4th or 5th guy. In other words, his value for us is 2nd or 3rd WR. Anything less makes him a progress stopper IMO.

He's a lot like Matthew Golden.

I remember the fly routes Dallas tried with Turpin last year when both Dak and Rush threw absolute dimes....that were incomplete. Turpin is barely 5'7 and the corners of today are just too big and fast to use him that way. You're not going to get the ball over the head of a 6 foot to 6'2 corner to drop it into Turp's bread basket.

Turpin needs to be used on deep slants and crosses where he can separate from the defender laterally. He's a gadget player and not a true number two receiver.

you know look at their names you'd think they were better but go look at last year Tolbert and put them side by side with Samuels and Cooper kup and Michael Gallup and some of the others that they want now look at him compared to Keenan Allen's numbers and Amarin Cooper's
Look at their numbers, then compare how much Tolbert played compared to those other guys. Nothing against Tolbert, but he got WR1 snaps and gave you WR3 production. Putting up the same numbers as Cooper Kupp is nice until you realize one player did it in 17 games and the other took just 12.

Taking that physicality into the run game and making life difficult on some finesse CBs is the hope.
Part of it. Everyone saw Deebo with him. But I would agree that's one of the reasons they like him. We'll see though. I still want to see Cropper in preseason.

I won't lie though. I think Mingo can also be one of those players that just take a bit longer to develop.

Plus, lots of awful throws to him last year.

So Tolbert would have to be #2. I think this could be the year he finally grows at that level. Given what his first year looked like, he really turned a corner last year. So it's reasonable to expect another jump in his performance this year.

Still, I'm envisioning Turp in mostly the slot position with Lamb and Tolbert wide.

Prolly won't work. But I still think you can find ways to utilize him, especially in shorter or longer passing situations. Not so much the intermediate routes.

Consistency is the issue with Tolbert. But he did lead the team with seven TD grabs last year; which kind of tells me Dak, Lamb, and Ferguson were beat up. But still a nice stat for Tolbert.

I realize people are down on Tolbert but look at all the guys this year that either went in a trade brought back out of retirement or in free agency some of the wide receivers that were discussed here like Keenan Allen Amari Cooper Cooper Cup Brandin Cooks and Debo Samuels and Michael Gallup.y I mean I could go post for you but this is what it looks like he's at least stacked up pretty close to how they had their last year or last couple years they haven't been very good I mean if you're saying Tobert's not very good then neither are a lot of these names being chucked around maybe they will be better this year I don't know but one's under a rookie contract and others are making 8 million or more huh which would you rather have the rookie contract guy who seems to be getting better every year even if it's in slow increments or the others because they have a bigger name on the back of their jersey and take up more of your salary cap?
There's a few I'm not doing all of them for you but Brandon cooks worse than any of those guys on the list got 6 million or more I mean do we need to put up other guys I mean who else went that was in that same group that people seem to want here over Tolbert? Take a hard look at those stats if I didn't put any names on them I think maybe you might look and say he was probably as good or better than anyone on that list just talking about last year how do you know he's not going to take another small step this year?

I believe Cooper kupp may have gotten 13 million and his stats were slightly better and maybe he will be better the next couple of years but his last year numbers were down a lot..

Gotta add in though...

Kupp - 12 games played, 357 passing routes
Deebo - 15 games, 420 routes
Allen - 15 games, 546 routes
Cooper - 14 games, 375 routes
Tolbert - 17 games played, 553 routes

Of those 5 you listed Tolbert played the most games, ran the most routes, and was 4th in yards. The only player to come close to Tolbert in number of opportunities was Allen.

Availability matters and kudos to Tolbert for being able to stay on the field, but you can'[t judge players based off of the counting stats without some context. Thats like saying Bucky Irving and Najee Harris are the same quality because they were both 1000 yard rushers this year and neglecting the fact that Harris needed an extra 50 carries to get there.
