We all hold our breathe when he has the ball in his hands, what a fun player to have. One thing in just watching a video on him this season was how he doesn't utilize his vision well all the time.

On several returns, it felt like he ran right to where a guy was, instead of taking those quick feet and going another way. I hope this is something he works on this off season!!

The return in the SF game. I thought his vision screwed him. He was gone. And took the wrong angle. Just my two cents.

You're having to make such quick decisions with bodies flying at you that sometimes you just make the wrong one. He had some nice returns this year, so I don't think his vision is a problem. He just made some decisions at times that I'm sure he'd like to have back. But that can probably be said of most return men.

The best return guys, and open field runners for that matter, instinctively cut behind a would-be tacklers as soon as he commits himself to one direction or the other - at full speed. Gayle Sayers was the epitome of an instinctive open field runner, IMO. He made defenders look silly.

That's the exact video I just watched
If he would have went to the outside he would have had a TD.
He may have thought the defender was going to the outside as well, and made his move to cut inside, then the defender cut back instead. And the Dallas blocker did not react quick enough.

Not making an excuse, but those on the field split second decisions and timing don't look as easy as watching it from above.
I would need to see it again to evaluate. But from first look and remembering it, it was the wrong decision.

Oh I wasn't saying it as a knock against him at all. In the heat of the moment in a split second you don't know what he is seeing either right. We all benefit from hindsight. We don't. He's the best return guy we have had since Harris. Wish they would have used him on offense more.

He needs to learn when and when not to return a KO. Sometimes it’s better just to take the ball at the 25 yard line. He made a few mistakes in that area during the season.

Yeah he slumped late in the year. Mainly mental errors, but fatigue could have played a part. He went straight from XFL to camp. Not that he gets a lot of touches, but practice and just team activities probably takes a toll. Hopefully he's revitalized this season.

Well he did play a lot from the other 2 leagues he played in. So now with a regular off-season, it could be a big difference.

When you go back and watch the top return guys of all time, the Devin Hester types they always set up the coverage team. Their first movements are typically towards the crowds, not directly away from it. It's the ability to get close enough to defenders that they commit and out of their lanes, but immediately have the ability to cut and escape to what is now a huge hole and explode through that.

I wonder if the issues with Turpin were more around him being worn down and lacking burst than taking bad routes.

When I watch him... I just can't help but think, any one of these runs his career is over. The dude is so frigging small.

Maybe, generally speaking at TCU he was real patient at the start of the return, he kinda sits back and picks a crease letting guys go by him then goes into turbo.

Based on the return against San Fran in the playoffs, I'm stunned that he's still alive unless he's never been asked to cross a street.

Most exciting return guy we’ve had in a long time. Glad we got him. Not let him run some routes.
