Need some advice and/or recommendations on obtaining a cheap receiver. I have a complete surround sound system on my main TV but need help with an additional TV.

I am in the process of building a man-cave so to speak above the garage for sports and hold-em games......my hideaway from the kids

I bought a 55" LED(a Black Friday sale in August) in a rush just to get one. Come to find out, it only has one audio output....a digital coaxial output :(

Well, a friend sold me his 5.1 system for only $40, what a steal right? After hooking it up, only the L/R speakers work along with the sub-woofer. I did have to get an adapter for digital coaxial conversion to RCA because the receiver only has RCA inputs. Not sure how he ever used all 6 speakers with nothing more than RCA's

Brings me to another question....how/why was this old system ever sold as a package? I don't think 6 speakers ever worked with only the red/white cables, you have to have digital or HDMI I thought...it is basically a 2.1 with six speakers, confused there. Why is there 6 speaker connections with only an RCA input??

Basically, I need to find a cheap receiver that has a coaxial input along with 6 terminals for speakers but the terminals needed are the ones where the wires just fit right in with the push button clamps, no banana plugs or posts.

The wife is getting frustrated with me spending and spending so I just want a simple, cheap receiver with the above options and am having a hard time finding one for less than $200.

I have combed the net but most don't specify the inputs or the speaker terminals, I am not too tech savvy. Any good links to one I can buy? I would rather go get one today at a store but can't find a cheap one from Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Fryes, etc, etc.

also, you can do fake surround sound which produces 6 speakers of sound off a stereo signal. This is what usually you see as "pro logic" sound processing.

Also, the ohm's on those speakers are going to be 1-3 ohms and a standalone receive is going to be 6-8 ohms.

In other words, you'll burn up the receiver if you hook it all up.

Best buy something new. This is a good entry level system: http://www.amazon.com/Denon-DHT-151...ie=UTF8&qid=1408467954&sr=1-10&keywords=denon

I have a good system on the main TV but not wanting to spend that much for this one at this point. I could produce the fake sound if the system I got for $40 had the damn remote :(

I just may have to get a whole new one, I don't need a great one, just something that uses all 6 speakers that has a digital coaxial input, the cheaper the better.

Only has HDMI inputs I believe, ran across this one earlier.

No, it has HDMI, Digital Coax, Optical, Standard AV, Component, etc.

What are your inputs? Satellite, dvd etc? If you have HDMI, just run the inputs into a receiver and then back out via HDMI to the TV. And on a side note, you just bought a new LED TV and it doesn't have HDMI out?

The receiver is old, only has 3 inputs, 2 are are RCA and the other is component. It has four outputs-RCA, s-video, component and a digital coax. The TV has several inputs but only one output(which is what goes to the receiver) and it is a digital coax. There is no HDMI on the receiver and all of those on the TV are inputs.

If the digital coax was input(rather than output) on the receiver, this thread would not exist.
