TV networks expand on-demand offerings to fight 'cord-cutting'

If they want to be fair.... $99/month per household and premium channels.
Charge $5 for additional boxes.

But....

They don't want to be .... "Fair"

All the major networks will soon stream their stations. It's the only thing they will be able to do to stay alive. The question is, will people tolerate paying for a streaming service only to get commercials with it?

Chances are, they will offer two services. Live streaming with commercials for free or very long cost, and then paid on-demand services that includes live broadcasts.

It will be interesting come sometime next year, when you can buy your own cable boxes loaded with said streaming services. The cord cutters are less about the cords and more about why in the hell do I need 500 channels to watch 20 and why do I have watch 5 minutes of show then 4 minutes of commercials, rinse and repeat for 1 hour.

Pretty much. Charge out the wazoo and then waste my time by showing more and more commercials.

You eliminate the commercials and eventually it will lead to cost increase for programming.

Can't have it both ways.

If they wanna run a crap ton of commercials, which they do, then designate a channel(s) and run them 24/7 if they want. Done.

Honestly, I don't think I've EVER made a purchase and or decision because of a commercial. They are absolutely, 100% annoying.

A lot of people can't get the Free Antenna HDTV because of distance, trees, etc....

If I could get any local channels over the air I would cut, but I can't so I'm stuck with Mediacomm for cable and internet and close to $185 a month for 4 HDTVs, ondemand and DVR

Ideal would be- Antenna with Locals for football, Netflix for content and Roku for ESPN and I would cut cable and only keep internet for $50 a month......regional sports channels would be lost

TV stations could care less if commercials influence anyone.

The commercial time is sold to offset costs.

Yep, same here.

An antenna is useless.

My cable bill for last month... Including the Internet. $184.05

Yep it's a lot.

But I'm OK with paying it.

My selection of channels is top-notch.

I don't have to hunt to find anything.

I don't need my laptop networked to the whole thing.

I can 4 different things on 4 different TV's.

And the Internet service is fast & reliable.

I'm with you...it is what I like to do.....watch sports and movies and surf the web....

I get all the movies, NFL, MASN, CSN, BTN, SEC, YES, on demand, DVR, high speed with 350MB of internet

just so many channels and music and ppv that I don't watch or want...would love a rebate on all that

So far, the only convenient, affordable and easy-to-use streaming service I've found is Netflix. All of the others either have poor technology in place or want you to use some heavy-handed or custom-built software that rarely works well or reliably in order to use their service

If you don't mind being a bit of an outlaw, you can watch all of the movies and TV shows you want for free. All you need is a computer and HDMI cable. Nothing to download.

No one bother asking me where 'cause I ain't telling.

They weren't zapped.
They just moved the channels lol

Causing you to get a new box!

This isn't true. They want it to influence people because if it's not generating sales for the company buying the time. They will stop buying the time and there would be no commercials and therefore minimal to no income for the TV stations. Their has to be ROI on the monies spent on advertising.

Most businesses are running brand-building advertising with no call to action... Thus no way to track the results– which is a method of advertising supported by many advertising agencies because they do not want to be held accountable.

The infomercial and direct marketing based companies are greatly interested in their results... 99% of the other folks that advertise on TV like to "think" their commercials are working but don't have a clue on if they are or not.
