I actually do not have a ton of rue-age with this draft but if Dallas had followed their plan with the small trade downs, this is what I would have tweaked:

1. RB Ezekiel Elliott (small trade down with Ravens for their 6th overall and 4th rounder)

2. LB Myles Jack (34th pick)
2. LB Jaylon Smith (trade Leary and 2017 2nd to Titans for 45th overall which is Titans 3rd second rounder)

3. DE Matt Judon (traded down in 3rd and pick up a 5th)

4. DT Andrew Billings (small trade down in 4th and pick up extra 6th or 7th pick)
4. DE Charles Tapper
4. QB Dak Prescott

5. WR Moritz Boehringer

6. CB Anthony Brown
6. SS Jeremy Cash
6. RB Darius Jackson
6. TE Rico Gathers

7. DT Justin Zimmer

Adding more fallen first rounders (Jack, Billings), high production guys (Judon, Cash) and more high upside uber athlete type players (Jack, Boehringer, Zimmer). Players lost: Collins, Frazier

I understand that hindsight is 20/20 but this was a fun exercise in any event. :D

Why trade down to Ravens pick to take Zeke if Zeke was the player they was trading up for? Stephen Jones confirmed in the day 1 press conference.

Id pass on Billings. He is that guy apparently the media valued more thenthe NFL. After signing Thornton our biggest need at DT was another intirior rusher and Billings doesnt provide that

Judon went in the 4th or 5th right? Why take him in the 3rd? And Tapper is better anyway.

They wanted Ramsey per the Ravens. Their greatest needs were CB and pass rusher.

I hope so, but that remains to be seen. I flopped Judon and Billings. I also struggled between Hargrave and Billings. But I see some pass rush potential in Billings, he will not be the typical 1 tech. He had more sacks than Maliek Collins, who the Cowboys liked over Bullard, Day and Hargrave.

Our greatest need was that too....

Pass rush was our greatest need, true. But most teams do not follow Jerry's wildcatter philosophy of picking the guy that just makes his toes tingle the most.

They wasn't trading up for Ramsey......if they said Ramsey and Dallas wanted him why lie and say Zeke even everybody knew Jags would take Ramsey. Doesn't make sense.

They wanted Zeke

Hmm Stephen said when he asked the Ravens they told him Zeke. Maybe they should have said Ramsey and we would have traded

They did say Ramsey, but Stephen and Jerry wanted a third instead of fourth offered. And they waited for Ravens to cave which did not happen. Jerry admitted to this early on but started adding the other BS, Ravens may have wanted Zeke, to make their decision not to move down and still take EE look better. Think about it, if Cowboys truly feared losing Zeke, the top player on their board and the consensus choice by the FO, why be willing to lose him for a 3rd but not a 4th?

Ozzie Newsome came out and rebutted Jerry's version of the events almost immediately after the Zeke spin came out of Valley Ranch. Look it up on the Baltimore Sun news pages yourselves. Jerry is prone to talk out of both sides of his mouth and Ozzie's rep is the more impeccable. Is it likely that it is Ozzie lying and not Jerry, yes, but precedence tells us that is the least likely scenario. Sad but true.

It's difficult exercise to find out who is telling the truth because both teams have a reason for lying.

For Ozzie to say that they wanted Zeke would not be a sign of support for Justin Forsett. For the Joneses to not say Baltimore wanted Ramsey leaves the door open that they could have traded down and still got Elliott. Of course, we don't know if that would have happened anyway because if Baltimore had taken Ramsey, Jacksonville could have traded with someone who badly wanted Elliott.

Jerry tends to lie/exaggerate more than most, just his personality. Chronology of events, story morphs slightly over time, and precedence tells me it is most likely that Jerry is one adding color to this story.

And Jags would have taken Myles Jack if Ramsey was off the board, they were one of the few teams who really coveted this player, knee time bomb and all. They even trade traded up to take him in 2nd.

It pays to read about other teams in the league to assess any opportunities available.
