This is the root of my dislike with a lot of the old players. Wade didn't deserve that.
I agree.

Prediction...his son Wes, will be a HC in the NFL in a few years and make that a 3 generation thing.

He's the TE coach in Washington right? I think I remember reading that the Dallas front office was disappointed when he left. Seems like not to long ago he was John Garrett's ball boy on Hard Knocks.

I always loved Wade as a person.
Unfortunately he is very set in his ways and thus his coaching elevates guys for a bit then never adjusts for competition or scheme.
He basically lets guys attack in their best manner play after play.
Except teams take that away and then he just loses.

He is, and a good guy.

I still like Wade. I feel bad that team quit on him. He's a good dude and a good football man, just not really HC material.

I agree.

The thing I've sometimes wondered, since reaching this conclusion about Wade, is whether it teaches us anything about Bum. History seems to look back on Bum as a good guy (not unlike Wade, though doubtless more charismatic) and a good coach whose very talented Oilers teams were just unlucky to have come around at a time when that Steelers juggernaut left everyone fighting for second best.

There's obviously something to that (those Steelers teams were tremendous) but I wonder sometimes whether Bum, not unlike his son, just wasn't the guy to lead a team to a title. As they say, the apple doesn't fall from the tree.
