I hate to be Chicken Little, but these reports on the Oline are worrisome, though not shocking to any reasonable-minded person. Is hoping for improvement pitifully naive given past disappointments?

That's not chicken little. That's realism (in the real sense, not the sarcastic sense we often use around here). There's every reason to be skeptical. Pad or no pads, until they actually show improvement, we've every reason to question.
