NEW YORK — The NFL will look into teams revealing their draft picks on their Web sites and through Twitter even before commissioner Roger Goodell might have announced the selections.

The San Diego Chargers plan to post their picks this weekend on their Web site as soon as they hand in the name card. The information could show up on the site before Goodell gets to the podium.

New England also plans to use Twitter to announce its picks in real time.

“After the draft, we will review how the teams are announcing their picks and determine whether we need to develop a policy,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Friday.

The Patriots already are publicizing how their fans could get draft information before the rest of the football world.

“We might even get a few draft picks out via Twitter before they are announced on TV, so any Patriots fans following the draft closely are encouraged to begin following RealPatriots on Twitter,” Patriots spokesman Stacey James said. “Of course, this is the first time we are attempting this, so it should be interesting.”

San Diego is expanding its draft coverage to include a “Pick Cam” through which Chargers officials will announce each of the team

Yeah, I think the commish needs to put a clamp on this. The draft bring sin millions for the networks and the NFL. These teams are obviously getting some kind of kick back from the sites or companies they are using to do this and I'm pretty sure that's against some rule in the CBA

I don't see why the NFL should direct free traffic to twitter. Seems dumb... If they like this kind of functionality NFL main website should develop it or teams websites should have it.

ESPN has been announcing the picks before the commish reads the card for the past few years. Good ole' Berman calling the name.

ESPN sucks

Twitter.com

Seems like it's blogging on steroids.

People burp... post about it...and it's instantly uploaded to the 'net.

I don't quite get it, yet. Too hard to follow.

You log in with your blackberry or Windows Mobile device to their server and then send text messages to them. Each text message gets posted to your site where all your followers (friends) will be able to read it.

You can also do it from your pc, its sort of like updating your *******/facebook status.

Some companies or celebs use it to update new products. appearances, or promotions they have coming up. Normal loser people use it to tell others the meaningless things they are doing in their lives such as going to taco bell or time for restroom.

I guess I don't see what the big deal is.

So what if hardcore fans find out who their team is going to draft a minute or two before it gets announced on TV?

I can think of bigger things Goodell needs to look into that are more important than that.
