TJ Lang/OL/Eastern Michigan:
Lange was a surprise non-invite at last month's combine but gave scouts something to remember on Monday. The Eastern Michigan tackle measured 6-foot-4 and 316 pounds, completed 30 reps on the bench then ran his 40s in times which ranged from 5.15-to-5.19. He displayed a lot of skill snapping the ball at center, a position several teams project him. Lang is building a buzz around himself and in all likelihood will be the first non-combine player drafted, possibly as early as the late part of round two.
Antonio Appleby/ILB/Virginia: The Cavaliers' underrated linebacker was another combine snub. He measured 6-3½, 245 on Thursday, completed 24 reps on the bench and his 40 times ranged from 4.65-to-4.68 seconds. Appleby is likely to be the first non-combine participant from the defensive side of the ball drafted next month.

So, you're TonyHill80 over on the Scout board??

I liked your idea when I read it over there, and I like it just as much here...

Lang wasn't real high on my draft board, because the 40 times they had for him were considerably slower than the numbers he put up at his Pro Day... I also didn't know he could play center... I like him a lot more, now...

Appleby has been a late round pick on a number of my mocks... that's because I'm a UVa fan, and saw the guy play, and was already suspicious of the borderline 40 times he was being credited with... I knew he was more like a 4.65 guy, just by the way he ran on the field, and he proved me right... he's particularly intriguing because Al Groh runs a 3-4 defense very similar to Wade's, so there wouldn't be quite as steep a learning curve for Antonio in Dallas...

I read that Lang can play all 5 positions.

now that we have an extra 5th and 6th, I would like to get OT Lyndon Murtha from Nebraska. Big, strong, and agile. I think he would make a very good backup at T.

I don't know, Biggems, Murtha has been awfully injury prone in college... and from the scouting reports I've read, despite his impressive 40 times he's only really suited to play RT...

We both have to be careful about being seduced by amazing 40 times, LOL...

Wasn't Flo projected to RT (and OG?) coming out of school? I know Columbo was supposed to be a LT.

Yes. Flo fell to round 2 because he was projected to RT based on the deafness in his right ear. That deafness is why we see so many false starts. He literally can't hear on the side closest to the QB.
