Two observations from Texas Stadium...

One, I've only been to about 6 or 7 games at Texas Stadium, but it's never been very loud and/or disruptive to the opposition, and I know that this is a common complaint of the home-team fans... that said, the crowd was extremely good today in the first half and was very loud and I think somewhat disruptive to McHernia. The Filly fans were waiting to explode, but were never given a chance, and the Cowboys fans did a good job of keeping the spirit up early on.

Second, I don't know if this showed up on TV, but being at the game, I noticed a formation the cowboys offese ran at least 5 or 6 times in "blitz" situations. They had Keyshawn in the backfield (usually with A Train) and he stayed back and provided pass protection. It was a very unusual formation, but it seemed to work. What was most curious to me was that I expected him to slip out of the backfield to become a receiving threat, but he didn't, he'd stay back and protect. One time in the 4th he slipped out, and was wide open, but Bledsoe correctly threw to Witten, who had run far enough of a route to make the first down.

Are you sure it wasn't Polite? 19 and 39 easy to confuse. If not, good observation, I didn't really notice it.

I am 100% sure. It was definitely Key. And they ran it almost half a dozen times.

I saw the formation you are talking about and it was Key. If I'm not mistaken didn't they motion him into the backfield?

I only noticed that formation once, and like you, I was expecting him to slip out, but he didn't.

I also saw Terry Glenn lined up as a tight end several times in the game.

I don't know how many times he did it, but I did see on one replay that Key did stay in to block. I remember thinking, hey they are keeping Key in. I think it might have been the play where Glenn dropped the sure TD.

The fans were loud today, but its easy to get into a game when your team is "throwing a beating" on the other team.

One additional observation was the officiating wasn't too bad except for the Cowboys fumble that was reversed. Our guy was down by contact long enough to write a book before the ball came out. I don't see how the officials missed that one, but at least they reversed the call.

It really seems like the refs let the defensive backs play the receivers on a fair basis today. I was so glad not to see the "ticky-tack" pass interference calls today.

Yeah, that's one of the advantages of being at the game and not being limited to what the TV cameras are showing you. It was almost always on third down obvious passing situations. I kept annoying the guy next to me saying "Keyshawn's lined up in the backfield again." I don't think he cared. :D

The cool thing was, he was not looking to catch a pass, he was looking pass block from the snap on. I assume if the Eagles backed off the blitz, he'd slip out, but almost every time he'd stay in and pick up a man.

:) I wanna sit next to you at a game you sound cool hahah

man, why didn't he care? what a great "fan"

he was probably just there so that he could brag to his co-workers

not like he was there to actually cheer on the Cowboys or anything

I thought the PI call on Henry was BS, but otherwise it was good officiating.

Yeah, I'm full of interesting observations... among other things. :laugh2:

After I gave him a dissertation on the life and times of Jose Cortez, he put his earphones on and listened to the radio for the rest of the game. :D

More reason for this Bledsoe-Key thing to blow over fast - you don't find many pass protecting wideouts like Key.

i started a thread wondering what new wrinkles we might see, and we were chock-full of them Sunday! i missed these formations with Key (probably busy ordering another drink) but we definitely had the Eagles on their heels. they didn't know what hit them, and this seems on the face of it to be the work of Sean Payton...

Yes, I saw this formation a couple of times. The play that resulted in Key getting smacked and fumbling, which ultimately led to the Eagles TD was run from this formation.
