Well, Okoye won't be activated this year after all, but on the plus side Lawrence has come back with no setbacks, Brent has been added to the 53, and sounds like he has a decent chance to play vs NY! With how Melton has been playing I like how things are looking for the D-line at the three tech anyway so maybe it's ok that Okoye wasn't ready to come in yet. I really want to see what Brent can do for the d-line at the 1 tech, he'll be the biggest guy (and from what his teammates have said the strongest) on the team by far at that spot so we'll see what kind of difference he makes. So what have ya'll made of Lawrence's play so far & what are you expecting to see from Brent?

I wasn't expecting Okoye this year anyway. Mincey has been getting almost all the WDE snaps this season. It's good to see a guy who can finally split snaps with him in D-Law. I'm still unimpressed with SDE but hopefully Spencer can get healthy and improve. I think we need to address SDE big time next year. I'd like to see Mincey back but I don't know about Spencer and Selvie. We also seem to have a lot of talent at 3-tech. We're actually pretty stacked at the position. Melton and Crawford play the majority of snaps there. And we even saw Jack Crawford look pretty good there. We do need to improve 1-tech though. Hayden has looked pretty bad lately. Hopefully McClain and Brent can make Hayden expendable.

Mincey's cap hit for next season will be $1.75 million if Dallas keeps him and $250 K if they cut him. Can that $1.5 million savings be used better elsewhere?

Generally speaking on the Defensive tackles I am amazed how they've come through for us and Nelli.
We can go get the best guy available in the draft and I hope that's defense.
Luck and damn good coaching is all I can say.

I expect better defensive line play each proceeding game.

Some quality depth to hopefully provide a good rotation. Definitely a shot to make a little noise down the stretch. One game at a time.

Why cut Mincey?

He's played well this season.

You can tell by watching him for an extended period of time. PFF has him as the 9th ranked 4-3 DE.

At $1.75 mil the guy is a bargain.

That is why I phrased it as a question and not a statement. I saw in another thread where someone advocated cutting Mincey. I don't think it is the clear choice to do so. I can see a situation where they keep him and also a scenario where they cut him. I'm leaning toward them keeping him.

They'll keep him.

And they'll be drafting another DE.

Lawrence
Mincey
Someone out of the Spencer/Selvie group
Gardner
Rookie 1st or 2nd rounder

Those are your DE's for next season.

I expect Mincey and D-Law to be the starting DEs soon. Mincey would probably be move to LDE.
