You can add steadily improving Ratliff, James and Bennett. Scandrick/Mickens and other young guys. I agree that a healthy Felix Jones is a huge weapon. Improved kickoffs and special teams. And simply the fact that this team now knows nothing will be handed to them. There will be more of an underdog mentality. More guys trying to prove the world wrong instead of waiting to have a Lombardi handed to them like last year. Fewer locker room lawyers can only help. Our core is hardworking and in their prime (Witten, Ware, Romo, Barber, James, Ratliff etc.) There are lots of other reasons too, but those are some things that jump out to me right away.
Excellent post. There's a lot more to be excited about this team than concerned.
For all the *****ing and moaning about Wade, you have to concede that he brings a lot to the table as a DC. You just can't underestimate how valuable having a top DC is.
Now our D is coming into it's 3rd year under Wade and now has his full attention.
Scandrick, Jenkins and Sensabaugh add a lot of speed to the secondary.
I expect a top rated defense in 2009. One that can control games.
Add to that a franchise QB and you have a SB contender.
Our two areas of greatest concern from what I read on this board are OL and WR.
Although I agree they are our weakest units, that doesn't mean they are weak. Or even average.
I'll argue that they are both well above average and in now way present a potential liability.
Let's look at the OL. The #1 concern on this board is depth and Adams. OK what team has real good depth and wont be effected by injuries. We're not unique here.
For all our Adams complaints, I still see the guy as a top 10 player. Please go and list the LOTs you'd take over him. And start with our NFC East foes first. You want any of thier starting LOT's?
Where do you rank Koiser, Geroude, Davis and Columbo?
WR is a little trickier. And I say that because you just can't look at it in a vacuum. Especially for this team. We have depth and exceptional talent at RB and TE. This will impact the effectiveness of our WR's.
Jones will play some WR and Bennett will see the field a lot in two TE sets. This will reduce the number of snaps Williams, Austin and Crayton will actually play.
So when evluating our WR's on their own, you have to understand that they will perhaps have less put on them than most other WR core's.
