Getting a real FB this off-season would be a major upgrade for the running game.

Tyler Clutts has no pop.

Clutts can have a 15 yard running start and generate zero movement when he meets a LB or S.

He manages to get in the way sometimes but I haven't seen any physicality.

We can do better.

He was getting very nice movement on Kam Chancelllor against big bad Seattle, watch the tape he springs Murray on some of his biggest runs in that game.

Doubtful.

I was thinking about this game before my first post in this thread.

Tyler Clutts had a free lane towards Kam Chancellor on a big DeMarco Murray run and when they met, the safety didn't even recoil from the impact.

Clutts crumpled, immediately going down to the turf.

But he got in the way and kept Chancellor out of the play, which is a success.

It was just ugly to watch.

Upgrading at FB is an inexpensive way to make a real improvement on offense next year.

He made a good block 4 yards up the field, the run went for almost 10 yards. He went down after the contact because we went low, so what Kam is 255 Lbs.

I'm not a big fan of Clutts, but he had a good game against Seattle.

Don't you know we are not supposed to say anything critical at all about anyone remotely related to the Cowboys right now?

And I posted the play was a success, Tyler Clutts got in the way of Kam Chancellor.

It just wasn't pretty.

He went down after the contact because we went low, so what Kam is 255 Lbs.

Clutts went down like a cheap suit and Chancellor didn't even recoil from the block.

Clutts had all the leverage and momentum on the play and it looked like he ran into a brick wall.

You said Clutts was getting nice movement in that game.

The best we can hope for is that Clutts doesn't go backwards on a block, that it's a stalemate.

He doesn't have enough power to generate movement, even when he's coming at full speed and the defender isn't.

I'm not a big fan of Clutts, but he had a good game against Seattle.

I'd say it was average.

He wasn't on the field for Joseph Randle's big run.

I won't be surprised if Clutts receives a minimum one year offer from Dallas in free agency, that would make the contract eligible for the veteran minimum salary benefit on the cap.

But it should be very easy to upgrade this position.

Getting a more physical lead blocker would work beautifully with this offensive line.

If we can upgrade at fullback I'm all for it.

If we can upgrade at fullback I'm all for it.

I am curious about how the team will approach the FB position during the off-season.

Jason Garrett has spoken about how important the fullback position is, even though it doesn't get a lot of snaps.

That's because most of the plays occur in short yardage or goal line situations.

They matter.

But the Cowboys didn't make much of an effort to bring in any real competition after last season, J.C. Copeland was added as an undrafted free agent and never got much of a look. It was Tyler Clutts versus going long at another position, there wasn't a threat or even an alternative at his position.

Dallas was burned when they brought in Lawrence Vickers as a free agent in 2012 after Houston released him.

What will they do now?

I can see Tyler Clutts being offered a minimum one year deal as I posted earlier, there shouldn't be any competing offers and he walks if there is.

IMO, if Clutts isn't on Dallas' roster next year, he's sitting on the sofa at home waiting for the phone to ring.

Jerome Felton, who blocked for some guy named Adrian Peterson in Minnesota, is supposed to be able to void his contract after taking a pay cut this season.

Henry Hynoski and John Conner are scheduled to be free agents.

And then there's the draft, where using a day three selection is always a possibility.

I'll give Clutts some props, he has not been awful, but could be better.
Need some competition though. They tried last TC, though I think they should have brought in someone better to compete. The guy they had was out of shape and overweight. Can't recall his name right now.

The guy they should have drafted went to SF in the 7th round. but not sure how he played either.

It's amazing the impact an offensive line can have on everyone.........once blocking up front is established it allows everyone behind it to do its job 100 times easier....see, Romo, Murray, Clutts

Very one dimensional fullback but he can lay the wood so he's alright by me.

That's all we need ... a battering ram for the Half Back. He doesn't need to do anything other than bash some heads and open holes for the ball carrier.

doing a fine job out there.

he will be very important in the playoffs against detroit and green bay and seattle.

Ill give him some love when he can consistently dig a CB out of a hole.

I'm not overly impressed with Clutts. He appears to know who to block but his blocking is just OK.

He could move the CB in that run where Randle got tripped by Clutts feet.

Here is his snap count data. I thought he played more on special teams than the data indicates:
