Tyler Guyton YouTube interview

I like Guyton and I'm hopeful on him, but to be honest he said all the right things in interviews last year, too. Unfortunately, being a good dude and saying the right things doesn't mean much.

I'm disappointed nobody who covers the team ever told us what was really going on with him last year. Getting benched for a spare like Edoga is pretty alarming.
Yep gonna need to see it on the field. A number one pick being a healthy scratch and asking out of games is problematic, not to mention his play. Maybe a move to RT is in order.

I agree with a lot of what has been said in that he was always going to be a project, needs to get stronger, needs time to develop, etc. its certainly too soon to throw in the towel on the kid, but.....

I would simply encourage caution on this for the simple reason that he was bad beyond just needing development time last year and was among the worst tackles in the league. I'm hopeful that the Cowboys will bring in legitimate competition for him in camp, or at least give Richards a serious look if Guyton doesn't earn the position. I do not think after such a bad rookie season that Guyton should be handed anything just because of his draft position. It didn't work well with Mazi in year 2, and it would be foolish to make the same mistake again.

In all honesty I think the RT is an easier position to play argument is a bit outdated. It used to be that teams wanted their best pass rusher on the QBs blindside, but anymore teams are moving that best pass rusher around all over the front 7, and seems to be more over the RT than the LT. A big reason for this is the right side is typically the strong side of the field for an offense. It can often be easier to get those 1v1 matchups on the strong side of the field for a defense unless they keep in the TE to block.

Not sure who would or why.

100% of scouts said he was raw and needed 1-2 years to develop
The local media, guys like Cavanaugh, Broaddus, most of the radio guys on the fan, Jesse Holley, all act like the kid was trash and they wanna dump him. It's sad. He's already a bust according to them.

But, what do those guys say about Mazi??

Last year's struggles for Guyton will make him a better player learning forward. He didn't have a ton of starts in college so the experience he got will definitely work in his favor. He's locked in and I can't wait to see his progress.

Agree. I think he can step in day 1 and be better than Steele at RT.

Pulling for him

Green was hot trash without a glimmer of hope. He had the traits but nothing else. Guyton was a high level player at RT in college. One can validate drafting him where he was. But for me, LT is a bridge too far. He's talented, but his cup of tea is on the right. Let's stop trying to push this bizarre position flex crap onto every player we draft. It's just dumb. He's great at RT, play him there.

No. I have no idea why people keep saying that. He is a left tackle. He was drafted to play left tackle. I guess people forget why he played right tackle at Oklahoma.
He played on the right because he was good at it. I'm not saying he can't be a left tackle. I'm saying, the guy looks much more comfortable at right.

Listened to the interview. He's got the right mental mindset. Seems like a good kid. He needs 3-4 years to get experience. Id start him at RT. See if we can trade Steele and get our 4th round Pic back.
Yes. Lots of teams are gonna want to trade a 4th for a guy who hasn't played well since coming back from injury. Even sweeter, lots of teams are gonna want a guy in that situation whose 2025 contract for 13.25 mill is fully guaranteed.

Even better -- we'd end up 9 million in the hole (dead cap minus the salary we don't have to pay) if we trade him.

Other than those issues, great idea!

To be honest I would think Steele would have some sneaky good trade value if the Cowboys wanted to go that route. I wouldn't be shocked if he would land the Cowboys a 4th. On the open market he would be likely to get a bit more than $13.25M...the issue for the Cowboys is that Steele was easily the best tackle on the roster a year ago. It creates even more risk at at both tackle spots that were not very good to begin with.
