This game will see Tyler Smith matched up on Shaquil Barrett, a guy who has put up double digit sacks last season including 19.5 in 2019 season. Smith clearly will have a battle on his hands in his 1st pro start. Personally I think this matchup will come down to Dallas ability to run, 1st start I would rather see Smith run blocking using his size and power as to keep Dallas in manageable down and distance.

I'm interested to see this chess game on how teams line up to attack the Cowboys oline. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see a lot of formations with the TE lineup up on the left side to give Smith some help. It will be very interesting to see how TB manipulates their alignments to get the 1v1 matchups they want. Is that Vea v McGovern? Barrett on Smith? Do they try to test Steel more if Schultz is playing more on the left side? Or do we even see a lot of 2TE sets?

Good question.

doubt hes left on and island, i mean Berrett would do that to many starting LTS, right, they won't allow that to be 1-1 you can have lg go help, have protections slide that way and use Backs and Tes to help as well. last i read, its not like Tyrones been great on pass predilection the last few years , not close to his old self if hes even been out there.

so Dak and the coaches are used to needing to help with game planning a top pass rusher..

the TB OL will also have their hands full..its the NFL key layers will be accounted for or it will be long day..this sint a newsflash. The world knows what's coming. you all act as if this is new, 77 is missing again, Collins been missing a lot and CWill was a drive staller.

i hope that these changes will be positive like you said better run game,. quicker passing with Turpin and Pollard etc and just go play..Tylers not replacing a HOF PB Tackle in his prime, Tyrone was not close to his old self..need a comp, Jason Peters..Tylers replacing steele, Knight, and a shell of Tyrone.,that how i see it.

1st off I think Peters will be playing by next week but not this week so that leave Smith to handle the job week 1. I agree you will do what you can to avoid the 1 on 1 but TB has talent across the DL having added Aikem Hicks to the mix. Real weakness of Tampa Bay is in the secondary. I think if Cowboys can stay out of long situation by running the ball it will help to open up the passing game to exploit weakness in Tampa Bay secondary. I don't see this like last years game where Dak threw 58 times, given the situation of the OL Cowboys must be able to have success on the ground and use play action to attack TB.

again, they could dop this on anyone not just us or just Smith.thats their game strong DL and pass rush good support from LBs,.etc..yes they have great defense, NOT NEW!

as i already stated It does not surprise to our fans or coaching staff. we saw them game 1 last year on the road and nearly beat them sans a Kicker issue??

odd last year we dropped what 31 on that vaunted D.. didn't martin miss that game. i mean cwill and Collins not exactly stalwarts we are replacing. Thats my point. Tyrone has not been himself go check PFF and other analytics TS77 has not been that great in pass protection his last 20 games or so. injuries caught up to him, Smith73 is not repealing a Tyrone in his prime..not as big gap as fans are making it. yes hes a rookie..big tests coming.

Perts is not penciled as a starter from what i hear they want him if they can afford it be the swing tackle and want 73 to learn OJT..now if the first 2 games he can handle ti alt all and hes getting chazzed greened, well yes Peters welcome to LT and slide Smith to LG If McGovern is struggling, if not Smith is the swing tackle...

Let just say I don't expect to see Dallas throwing the ball as they did last season in this game.

We talking about the same Tyron Smith? The 77 I know for the Cowboys has been often injured but was still a top LT both in pass protection and the run game in 2021. That loss is significant. To compound that issue though is now you go from Tyler Smith to McGovern at LG.

Week 1 is a tough matchup and we really dont know how TB will try to beat us. The Barrett V Smith matchup is just one that this team has to think about. Vea V McGovern is just as troublesome if not more, and while I want to give Biadasz the chance to prove himself this year he didnt show much to close out 2021 to install a ton of confidence in me. There are things the Cowboys can do to help, but you sacrifice other advantages you have. I dont want to be a debby downer, I actually like the Cowboys chances here, but this coaching staff is going to have to earn their paychecks in approaching this the right way.

Well at least it’s at home as far as the noise for him. I expect some holding calls only because once he gets his hands on you it’s over.

Agreed.
I had hoped Tyler would start at LG and have more time to adjust to the NFL.
Hope he's a fast learner!

I think Vea v McGovern is my biggest fear. I am sure that Smith will have his learning moments, but I believe that the McGovern / Biadasz gap is our weakest link.

I think he can handle the run blocking, the guy is very powerful and if we can be proficient running the ball that can be a big help in slowing down a pass rush. You keep down and distance in your favor, use play action then Cowboys just might be able to build confidence up in Tyler Smith. What concerns me is getting stuck in 2nd and 3rd long situation where defense can pin their ears back and go after Dak, not sure Tyler Smith is ready for that vs a player of Barrett skill sets.

My guess (and that’s exactly what it is), is that the Cowboys will play a lot of 12 personnel. They have stated several times that they want to be run orientated, and along with the WR situation and the rookie starting, I can see a majority of formations being the twelve.

12 or even some of those jumbo formations where the Cowboys used an extra olineman as FB. The only downside to that is you invite more defenders into the box which typically I would love, but not sure they have the receivers right now to take advantage of the 7-8 man boxes. Unless they are able to get some 1v1 looks for Lamb I'm not sure I see a huge benefit here, but I wouldnt rule out that strategy.

if we go break down Tyrone like the posts about peters you will find some PFF and other grades have him very average in pass protections. ytes iv listen to sports talk radio and many sports tv programs they went back and checked and 77 has not been his old self of late..stop the eye tests and memory's from the games he played in they go break it down and find its otherwise..
