Tyron Smith was sure high 1st round pick as a RT from USC, who weighed under 300 lbs. The Boys believed he had the quickness and strength to eventually become a LT star, selecting him over JJ Watt of Wisconsin. They knew he needed to put on some size and get used to the NFL game. The Boys did not put him in the fire at LT in his first season. They started him at RT, while Doug Free was inserted at LT for one season. After one year Tyron and free switched positions and both were better at their new positions.
Guyton was unreasonably asked to start in the NFL in a very difficult position where no Cowboy rookie was ever asked to start. Flozell Adams was a long time LT, but as a rookie played RG. Nate Newton did not start as a rookie. Larry Allen did not start as a rookie, he only came in when others got injured. Erik Williams never started at RT as a rookie. So why are so many fans out there so negative on Guyton?
If so many good to great Olinemen for the Boys did not start at their destination positions as rookies, Flozell Adams, Larry Allen, Erik Williams, Nate Newton, Tyron Smith, why were people expecting rookie miracles at LT with Guyton? Have some historical patience. It has been a long time, 44 years since the Boys blew away a first round offensive lineman pick, Howard Richards in 1981,
I expect a major improvement in the athletic left tackle Tyler Guyton in 2025, as well as Pro Bowl for Cooper Beebe. I expect Booker at RG to be very good as a rookie, as he has NFL strength and is a certified road grader.
