A bulging disc in and itself means basically nothing. You can take asymptomatic people at random, give them an MRI and more than half will have a bulging disc....or more. May have been there for years.

I had a herniated disc in college. Had to have surgery but have been fine ever since. I think the disc that caused me my issues was the L5-S1 disc.
