How big was Walter Jones when he was 20 years old?

I found the following:

"Jones attended Holmes Community College for two seasons, where he was named Mississippi Junior College Player of the Year by the Jackson Clarion-Ledger in 1994. Then 6′5″ and 265 pounds, Jones played both offensive tackle and tight end. He allowed just one sack in two seasons."

Since he was born in 1974 he would have been 20 years old at the time of this reference.

Walter Jones playing weight at 20 years old = 265.

Tyron Smith playing weight at 20 years old = 285.

Walter Jones was drafted out of FSU in 1997. He was a JUCO transfer and sat a year before playing at FSU. He was about 300 pounds at that time he was drafted. He was Left Tackle where as Tyron is a Right Tackle. The circumstances are similar between the two players in that they both had very limited play at each of there positions on the colligiate level.

Back then the O lines were smaller; 300 or so was about the max most of the time; they have gotten bigger since then. Most tackles now are 310+; many around 320.

I think Jimmy Johnson's Cowboys where the first offensive line that averaged over 300lbs.

Walter Jones just retired in 2009.

His playing weight was listed as 325.

I am guessing after 10+ years in the league Smith will be at least 325.

I think he will be 320-325lbs by his third season at the latest.

wasn;t the last edition of the Hoggs late 80's averaging over 300?

I don't know, it could have been. I just remember a NFL show (not necessarily Steve Sabol) that said Jimmy ushered in the era of averaging 300+lbs on the offensive line.

Nope. Hogs were big, but not that big. Averaged about 280.

Your point?

Smith will be near that weight in a year or two most likely. He's just 20.

No, according to some here, Tyron Smith is the first person in history to add weight. He's eternally doomed to struggle "keeping" on that weight.

Some are some are not. Al Johnson could not keep the weight on.

What's amazing is the kid literally just turned 20-years old this past December. He was playing football last season as a 280'ish 19-year old junior.

You can take that a couple of different ways, but I see a kid who is likely to continue to grow another year or two.

We aren't talking about a 22-23 year old, who is coming off his senior season into the pros.

Personally, I don't see any way in the world this guy could fit another ounce onto his frame.

That is one of the most chiseled OLineman I've ever seen.

I think he could add some more weight on to his frame.

The one thing that scares me a little bit.....name one great OL that has had a body that looked like that.
