Tyron Smith signed an 8 year $97 million contract in 2014. The team had him on relatively low cap hits from 2014-2017.

2018 and 2019 he took up 9.9% of the cap and 8.3% of the cap.

Now he is basically a bargain at a cap hit of $13.5 million (6.8% of the cap) and still under contract for 2021, 2022 and 2023. And he is arguably the best Left Tackle in the game. His only problem has been his health but has only missed a handful of games over the last few seasons.

The Smith contract extension is turning out to be a great deal made by the front office.

even with his injuries and what not, it was an unbelievable deal, and fantastic bargain.
Obligatory mention that he’s younger than Zack Martin

Man, that's right. He was like 20 when he got drafted.

That could be the best contract in Cowboys history.

Sometimes they get them right, sometimes they get them wrong. They got it right this time. Good deal Cowboys.

Most of the big time deals that they screw up on are on defense.

I have had people tell me here that we need to jettison him because his contract is going to screw us lol. Goes to show how uninformed people are here.

We knew it was a great deal the day he signed it and no one has complained since.

Tyron famously signed an extremely team-friendly contract over the objections of his agent. It was much-discussed at the time. It's not "turning out to be" a great deal: it was a massive coup from day one.

He was really young when he came into the league so it was a semi no brainer
