Tyron Smith hype hopefully hes not....

He played decent, but to say he studed out would be quite an overstatement.

He didn't even play OT, they moved him to guard in camp and he was inactive for part of the season. Cable didn't think he was ready, the plan is for him to replace Gallery at his guard spot since Gallery is a FA.

Bruce Campbell studed out last year for the Raiders as a starting OT.

I think you're thinking about the other OT they drafted

Oakland vastly improved thier OL and it showed up beastly for McFadden and the running game.

Tyron Smith is advanced more than Bruce Campbell.

Tyron Smith is twice the prospect of Campbell just for the fact that Tyron isn't lazy like Cambell or Barron.

I wish he could have played in a bowl game or even worked out with the rest of the guys at the combine, but all we're going to get in his pro day.

No, there's game tape as well, and the game tape says he's way better than Barron and Campbell (who wasn't even halfway decent starter in college).

For the life of me, I'm just really seeing absolutely no correalation to Smith and Barron other than some people think Smith is going to be a bust and to prove their point they're going to tenuously compare him to another bust. That's a pretty easy game to play. I can compare Carimi to some slow footed behmouth who didn't pan out in the NFL as a tackle, and then dare you to show me how they're different.

If Jerry and the Cowboys could improve the OL like Al and the Raiders did and if the effect could be the same for Felix Jones and the Dallas running game, it would be worth using the entire draft.

I don't have "game tape", but what little I've seen of him is unimpressive. He is very much a work in progress and I don't think he's ready to start on an NFL team. That's what scares me about him.

On paper, you have to love Smith. I just don't think he justifies the hype, and he's going to end up in an impossible situation where people expect him to be a pro bowl quality tackle from Day 1.

The original topic on the thread was in regards to the hype, not that Smith IS Barron, BTW.

I would not be apposed to the Cowboys spending their first, second and third round picks on OL. (Tyron Smith in the first, Stefen Wisniewski or Danny Watkins in the 2nd, and John Moffit in the 3rd.) Just make sure you sign Sensabaugh, Huff, and resign a few DEs this season too.

You would be looking at grabbing possibility all the replacements OL players in the next two years.

An offensive line that look like this.

Free, Moffit, Gurode, Wisnniewski, Smith

Yes Sir, it's just disappointing that the last few Drafts were so uber loaded with elite OL prospects and most fans knew what the problems were in the OL while they went unattended by the GM.

Tyron Smith hype hopefully hes not another Alex Barron. I just remember Alex Barron was all hyped up a few years back in the 2005 NFL Draft out of Florida State and went 19th overall to the St. Louis Rams. I'm just hoping that Tyron Smith will not turn out being the same dud pick. If anyone has info comparing the two coming out of College please help ease my mind.

With our new OL coach the Red Genius hired, maybe Alex breaks out this year and becomes a solid backup for us.

I am on board the Tyron smith bandwagon,i hope he doesnt blow everyone away on his pro day.

That would be impossible. At this stage of the game, you aren't raising a guys stock cause of their pro day, only lowering them.

I think people are interested to see him perform in drills since he didn't at the combine.

Some teams might have him on the borderline for Top 10 right now. I wouldn't be shocked if a great pro day seals the deal for a team ahead of us.

Maybe but I don't think that you're waiting on a players practice against air to rank him.

Dez had a terrible pro day and no doubt it dropped him in the eyes of some teams. It doesn't mean he's a bad player or will be a bad pro, but it speaks to his preparedness.

It's like showing up for a job interview with your shoe laces undone, your tie on crooked and your shirt untucked.

You may still be more than capable to do the job, but they are going to take another look at that resume and make sure to call your references.

I think #9 is the ceiling for Smith, and I don't even think he should be going that high.

I just hope he isn't a slightly improved version of Winston Justice.

Yeah, I'm serious. Okay, "slightly" is a stretch. :) But Justice was also a USC RT who was sold on his athleticism and upside. I still remember the ruing when we passed on that can't-miss prospect.

If we do get him, I hope its because we traded down and added another late first or early 2nd. I don't think he is worth the 9th overall pick.
