I recall a large contingency on this board that really believed he could not keep the added weight. Also, there were many that believed Smith would not play this year because he would be too weak and get pushed around.

Does anyone know what his report weight was?

310 pounds. I heard he is the skinniest 300+ pounder anyone has ever seen. I forget which thread that was in.

That's solid. A year with the new strength coach and he's a 325lb nightmare. I recall that he did around 26-29 reps at the combine. He's already strong given those wings he calls arms.

I was worried about this at first. But when he showed up at the combine at over 300, and then at his pro day even stronger, I figured that was one worry that could be put to bed.

he will be the prototype LT in 2 years. Someone with enough strength to not get bull rushed. Enough quicks to protect the edge. And he will be able to move in space and get to the 2nd level with CONSISTENCY. Meaning not once a game....or early in the season when his legs are fresh. A full season (and hopefully playoffs) performer. That is what was really missing from our older OL. Not enough in the tank to sustain late in the season.

When you get older, you can still do the same things you could do when younger; just not as often. And they do wear down some later in the season. That is one reason Indy always tries to rest their older players late in the season if they have clinched their division.

I agree with the old legs later in the season. Big, Flo and Colombo all experienced this.

I agree with you. I was not as worried once he showed up for the combine but many on this board said he could not keep the weight up. I recall that the OT from UVA that went to the Jets had a similar build and he is doing just fine.

He did 29 reps at the combine and 31 reps at his pro day, so he was continuing to get stronger as the draft approached.

And that is with some of the longest arms at the combine, which makes it more difficult to put up high bench numbers, like you mentioned.

That is very strong, as fully bent arms makes it a lot harder to explode up than partially bent arms. Tension throughout the limb isn't tensed and creating that effect is much more difficult. When the bar starts off the chest and doesn't just bounce off the ribs/chest bone.

I'm at awe of his leg strength and base he operates from. It is very mobile as well. He has upper body strength, and the weight will anchor with bull rushes over time. But his toughness will prove out from the start.

It's great to have confidence in our Tackles finally. I think we're going to be rock solid at the position for years now. Now we only need a guard. Well maybe two. and of course Defensive line help. Oh yeah Safeties would be nice. Yeah a safety. I mean like even one would be great huh?

Expecting Smith to play well in his first year with barely any offseason is a stretch. We'll probably get a Bulaga type season-- first half meltdown to rock bottom with a strong finish. If Romo survives, we have a puncher's chance.

That was me. From the stands it looked like he could put on a ton more. He looked like Shaq size...thick but not fat at all.
