If, If,
TT was allowed to say get 18 to 20 carries next week what would he produce?

All this talk about JJ and MB3 has made me think that TT who is bigger and faster then both may be a legitimate alternative IF he can fully grasp the playbook and improve his blitz pickup.

Opinions???

I'm pulling for Thompson. He's an underdog. He was injured by a cheap shot last year. I don't know if he'll develop into a better player with time, but I'd like to see that happen.

He's already good enough to pick up good yards against 3rd team defenses in the preseason. But that doesn't mean all that much in the grand scheme of things, IMO.

I think he'd be a colossal flop as a featured back. He basically is only good at one kind of run, a sweep.

Truth be told I'd like to see Battle as the 3rd RB and Austin and Stanback as the KR guys. He's just too tentative for me.

Yeah. I can't argue with those limitations, as well as the blitz pickup issue.

I have a pulling-for-the-underdog-soft-spot for Thompson and hope he shows something new this preseason, but I'd give the roster spot to Battle if preseason ended in a Battle-Thompson tie for 3rd RB.

I'm disappointed Coleman hasn't had a chance to show anything because of his injury. Can't even recall how he got hurt. Wonder if he has any chance of getting any playing time during remaining preseason games. Oh well.

I think TT did okay as a kick returner but I like to see Austin get a chance next week against the Broncos cause frankly I like him better. Actually I don't understand why Austin doesn't get a chance to return punt as well. Realize he has no experience but neither did Urban before Thursday night. Don't see Austin doing any worse as a punt returner then Crayton & I sure don't want Newman out there--at least no in preseason.

My biggest concern for the Cowboys this season is with players like Thompson.

I've always believed the Parcells/robotic comments but that isn't a bad thing when it came to Thompson, especially on KO returns. Thompson danced more in two returns against Indy than he did all of last season.

He needs to pick the hole and run like heck at it. That's how Dallas was one of the leaders in field position on KO returns last year. I'd rather have two 25 yard returns than one 40 yarder and one 10.

Too tentative and stiff for my liking....but I think he wins the third rb spot.

Well I'm backing you on this one. I don't see the hype. Honestly, the guy "lumbers" thru the middle and, I WILL be attacked for this,......he reminds me of Hambrick. :eekmouse:

tyson does seem to have made a few good runs to get people's hopes up, but i'm with you - if he runs, it's a sweep and how long before the league realizes that if we alraedy do?

we know that TT can do, let's let battle play a bit more.

I didn't think Tyson showed very much in the game and I don't see any additional upside from him.

To me the battle for a roster spot is not between Thompson and battle,, its between thompson and Austin. I see no point in keeping both. I think Austin has more upside and can actually contribute as a WR with a little more work. I think Thompson gets cut, battle makes the roster and Austin sticks as WR and KR.

what exactly do you see in battle? he didn't seem to have good balance to be able to get the short yardage after taking hits. nor the power to deliver them.

i'd like to see how hoyte or deon anderson do.

I agree, I was not particularly impressed with Jackie Battle. Didn't show any particular burst, power, balance, or elusiveness.

I will agree that in the game, he wasn't that impressive. There could be a few factors that limited him, mainly the line play, nerves, etc.

What I saw at TC however, he is much more explosive than he showed in the game. He seems a lot more polished of a runner with a tremendous upside, from what I saw in TC when I was there... he was impressive. That is what I am basing my conclusion on, that I would rather have Battle over Thompson at this point.

Cosign.

TT looked ok, but Jackie Battle did nothing to show he deserved the number three spot. Let's see how they fare in the next couple games.

A guy who isn't shifty and has a burning desire to get outside as your starter?

The guy is a nice change of pace back. Fast as hell against a tired defense works. But come on, you guy can't give him the ball 20+times a game.

this all depends on the robot, JJ. If JJ can't unlearn everything BP taught him and get his instincts back, he is actually some good trade bait and you may be able to fill a void elsewhere. TT can do the quick runs spelling the one guy that we know has the whole package, MBIII.
