fifa just announced that america have failed in their bid to host the 2022 soccer world cup. will be held in qatar!!! thats not what i was expecting, far too hot for football. to be fair they've probably won it on the strength of their promise to dismantle the stadiums after the tournament and send them to the 3rd world.

2018 will be held in russia. thats a shocking decision in my opinion, massive problems with hooliganism and extreme right wing, racist fan groups, clubs who have racist fans so powerful the manager is forbidden to sign black players. yet they are rewarded with the world cup?

thats two countries i won't be travelling to and with brazil having 2014 its at least 16 years before i can get to a worl cup :(

Qatar got it.

100-120 degrees in July. That'll go over well with the players.

its a shame that we didnt get it, my son and daughter will be 13 and 12 respectively and i was hoping to be able to go to a bunch of games with them on that world cup. hopefully we get it in 2026, they will only be 17 and 16 so we could still make a fun summer out of it

that would be sad, specially considering brazil was the most prepared team for a world cup in south america, hopefully thats not true, as selfish as it would be for me to hope it was here in the US

also from what i hear qatar is supposed to be REALLY safe, so i wouldnt mind going to that one, although the heat might be a bit too much, but from personal experience, 90 degree, texas humity heat is worse than 115 degree dry heat in arizona/southern cal desert

I don't think you would be saying this if it generates a lot of revenue for the economy in the country it is held. The 1994 World Cup generated the most revenue ever. Like it or not, the World Cup will pump a lot of money into the local economies during the month it is held.

Qatar got the 2022 bid I believe. That has nothing to do with the 2014 WC.

The 1994 WC was considered one of the most successful world cup's ever.

I believe it was the only World Cup in history to ever sellout every single game played.

The fact that America is a giant melting pot probably helps sellout the games that combine smaller lesser talented teams games. Say Korea DPR vs Denmark or Cameroon.

The US has shown that it can be a reliable host in a pinch. We hosted the Women's WC when China couldn't because of SARS. We have the stadiums and infrastructure ready to go.

Qatar says the open air stadiums will be air conditioned, not sure how that is going to work.

I am glad England didn't get the World Cup, the only time England has a chance to win is when it hosts the event. The thought of England winning the World up is quite nauseating.

Then I apology if he was. The World Cup generates alot of money and like others have said, the 1994 was the most successful ever. Sorry if I missed that he was kidding.

regarding the '94 world cup. it might have been one of the commercially most successful tournaments but it was pretty dire football wise. not a criticism of the host nation but it was a pretty dull tournament best remembered for bobby baggios penalty miss.
if anyones interested heres the stadiums they're building in qatar

some of them are pretty bizzare.
edit: just noticed it has a link about relocating the stadiums after the tournament i mentioned earlier
