I didn't get to see anything game-wise more than him vs Tex and minimal highlights, but with those numbers, despite the conference, I sure am intrigued by the guy. Providing of course the number of the pick would be logical.

Who of you big brained, draft-geeks, has some info or opinion on Mr Smith they'd like to share?

He has the correct name to be a Cowboy at least. :D

I like him a lot. If we address other needs on day 1 and take him in the 3rd on day 2 I wouldn't dislike it at all.

Here's some comments from personnel guys:

8. KEVIN SMITH, Central Florida (6-1, 216, 4.50, 2-3) - Set an NCAA record for carries in '07 with 450 and gained 2,567 yards (5.7), second behind Barry Sanders' total of 2,628. "That's a lot for a junior," Beddingfield said. "He's got a lot of wear and tear on his body already. Long strider, very similar to what we've had here with Chris Brown. He's got pretty decent speed, not great." Played safety as a high school senior in Miami and fell under the recruiting radar. "He kind of reminds me just in personality of Shaun Alexander," Hardaway said. "He has fast-twitch feet and body mobility to press the line of scrimmage and grab ground." Said one scout: "He played in Conference USA, where the defenses stink. SMU is about as bad as I saw. Those guys in Conference USA can't tackle. He isn't anything great."

Well I don't consider myself a big brained, draft-geek, but I am familiar with the college prospects. I like Smith, but he has a lot of mileage on his tires. The same could be said of Rutgers Ray Rice. However, I would take Smith in the 3rd round if Ray Rice, Chris Johnson, and Jamaal Charles are all off the board already.

I think he's too slow, we need a guy behind Barber that's a home run threat, and Kevin Smith isn't that. If he were our starter or a backup to a faster guy, I'd have no problems with him.

Smith also played behind the best o-line in CUSA last year, all juniors and seniors. I'm not saying he is a bad RB, but couple the good o-line and playing teams not known for defense, and you have a good recipe for success.

Many will use the CUSA thing against Chris Johnson too and it is true to a point. I would have LOVED to see CJ play behind an o-line like Smith had.

Yeah, if a sub 4.5 forty is slow, give me slow players all day. What is up with that evaluation? Kevin Smith would be a steal in the third round.

Some of these anonymous scout evaluations have to be disinformation. I don't know anything about Kevin Smith, but I can't imagine a scout just discounting a player generally b/c 'everyone he played against can't tackle.'

Whoa, where'd he run a 4.43? That 4.43 is it italics on that page, so it's unofficial, whatever that means. I've seen times from 4.5 to 4.6. He plays faster than a 4.5, but I think he's a guy you keep in there for 25 carries, and he wouldn't be doing that here.

Not a knock on him at all, I like him, but I just don't know that we're the best fit for him. The way he moves around the field actually reminds me of Barber a bit.

He's been under the radar for some time now, and IMHO, he's underrated. In the 3rd round, he'd be good value.

he punishes defenses.......i like that.

You start barber, who punishes defenses....take him out for a breather and bring in smith, who punishes defenses.....

OUR RBs are splitting time and staying fresh, but the defense is getting used and abused.

if we pass on Charles, i am all for drafting smith

He ran, officially, a 4.43 at the combines. I saw it about 20 minutes ago on the NFL channel who are replaying the combines right now.

Stewart ran right after him and posted a 4.48.

Kevin Smith is one of favorites and I've been pinning for him for a while. I like Stewart too, though.

A couple of players ran times they put up and then later changed to unorficial times. That's what happened to Dmacs 4.29.
