DRAFT BIBLE SLEEPER: DOWAYNE DAVIS

progress.gif
One of the prospects flying under the radar is Syracuse safety/cornerbacks Dowayne Davis. After starting at strong safety for two seasons, the 6’0, 200-pound Davis excelled as a senior-- making the transition to cornerback and showing vast improvement in his man coverage. He displayed outstanding athleticism and good instincts, not to mention he can also lay the lumber (see insert). A scouting combine snuff, Davis looks to impress scouts at his pro day workout in March where the former track standout is expected to run in the low 4.4-range. With The Orangemen producing such talents as Tanard Jackson (Buccaneers) and Anthony Smith (Steelers) in recent years, look for Davis to garner some attention. A native of Jamaica, he was also an academic achiever in the classroom. http://www.cowboys-forum.com/forum/editpost.php?do=editpost&p=1010952

4.4 range? That's downright slow compared to the rest of our CB's:lmao2:
Just kidding, of course.

We made an offer to TE Matt Mulligan (Maine). No word yet whether he accepted it.

Mulligan signed with Miami for a smaller bonus ($4,000) than we offered him ($6,000). But his chances of making the team are better there than they would be with us.

Figures. Beating out Fasano shouldn't be too difficult.

And, if they cut the wrong guy, they can always use their Mulligan.

Per my local paper (he played HS ball here)

Maurice Purify invited to Bengals camp -- does not have a contract, going on a tryout basis.

edit: our other paper reports that Dallas has contacted Purify with interest as have several other teams

edit again: I see BTB had this earlier today now...

Dallas just took Middle Tennessee's Erik Walden with their sixth-round pick (No. 167). Not much bio information on Mr. Walden (6-2, 243), but he's listed as a defensive end. Might be a perfect candidate to switch to outside linebacker in a 3-4.

Still cannot believe Dallas passed up on Andy Studebaker and Curtis Johnson for Walden.

Both are as big or bigger, more accomplished, more athletic, all day suckers who play with a nasty streak. Studebaker is a better pass rusher and Curtis Johnson is waaaay better against the run.

Some of Walden's write ups note that he gets gassed late in games. But ALL note that he will be a UDFA.
