K Hunter Lawrence signs with the Bucs.....I was kind of hoping Houston, so I could watch him every week.

* QB Matt Nichols (Eastern Washington)
Matt Nichols (QB) - Nichols is a promising prospect with a good arm, accuracy, and decent touch on his throws, but has the tendency to stare down his intended targets.

* C Phil Costa (Maryland)
Costa is a ridiculously strong player. He started lifting weights at age 7 as his father is a former competitive body-builder. Costa has cleaned 455# and is one of the strongest players to ever have played at Maryland. Costa is also very durable, having never missed a game at Maryland for injury. He is an intelligent player on and off the field. He shows a good understanding of defensive fronts and stunts, and calls the assignments for the o-line. Costa is more athletic than expected, with a 35.5" VJ as evidence of his explosiveness. He moves fairly well and is able to get to the second level effectively and can pull and get out in front of the back to clear a path. Costa is especially proficient as a run blocker with his strength to drive defenders backwards.

* S Barry Church (Toledo)
Overview
Athletic playmaker who produces in the clutch. A 4-time MAC 1st Teamer - only one of three Rockets to ever be so honored. 2nd on Rockets defense with 98 tackles in '09 and totalled more than 92 tackles since his sophomore year. 34-6 vertical jump with 4.5 speed - Jim Thorpe semi-finalist and Bronco Nagurski nominee.
Strengths
Combines cornerback coverage technique with linebacker will-to-hit and run-support tackling. Perhaps most experienced safety in the draft. Versatile - can rush the passer well and drop back in coverage. Makes plays when it counts - blocked FG try to seal 20-19 win versus Northern Illinois and returned INT for TD as frosh against Kansas in OT win. Durable - never missed a start in 4 years.
Weaknesses
Can improve in man-to-man coverage. Sometimes overaggressive in reacting to fakes. Could be perceived as a 'tweener. Few weaknesses overall.
Projection
3rd round. Did some things well at combine and pro day, but 40 was unimpressive.

* FB Chris Gronkowski (Arizona)
Chris Gronkowski: No. 37, FB, 6-2, 235

Gronkowski is an athlete who showcases natural body control and balance as a lead blocker. He possesses an average first step but does a nice job breaking down in space, reaching his target and making solid contact. But he isn't powerful at the point of attack and doesn't generate movement off the ball. He has a tendency to stop moving his legs and looks content to simply try to get his head inside and seal his man from the play. Gronkowski lacks ideal upper body strength as well and has a hard time staying on blocks. He's a coordinated route runner who does a nice job setting up his breaks underneath so he can catch the football. However, isn't an explosive threat and isn't going to generate much separation for himself at the next level.

Grade: 5.4

WR Terrell Hudgins (Elon) Strengths
Power, size, ball skills, plays fast, a durable, consistent, sure-handed receiver who can make all the catches: the routine as well as circus-style football catches, including one at Chattanooga that made ESPN's SportsCenter where he pinned a pass thrown short to the back of a defender and secured it with one hand. He scored a touchdown on the play.
Weaknesses
Speed, he is likely to run in the mid 4.6 range at the combine/pro day. But he might run slower and a move to H-back simply because he doesn’t have the height of a Ramses Barden type to stay at WR in the NFL. He caould also refine his cutting and accelerating out of his breaks.
Projection
If he runs 4.54 he goes to the 4th, if he runs 4.75 he drops to the 6th, my guess is in the middle.

i havent confirmed these, but they are saying over on true blue cowboys forum we have;

Chet Teofilo, G, Cal

Positives: Highly considered offense lineman who struggled as a senior in 2009. Bends his knees, blocks with leverage, and keeps his feet moving. Immediately gets his hands into opponents, stays square, and jolts defenders with good hand punch. Makes solid use of blocking angles, and anchors at the point of attack. Fights hard throughout the action.

Negatives: Stiff, lacks balance and struggles to finish. Nonexistent as a senior and barely saw the field.

Analysis: Teofilo displayed flashes of ability after moving to the offensive line prior to his sophomore season. He has the size and skill to play in confined quarters at guard if he gets his game back on track.

We HAVE signed....

Lonyae Miller, RB, Fresno State

Senior Bowl Riser: An interesting combination of power and speed packed in a 220-pound frame. Not only did the Fresno State product exhibit nice cutting ability with a second gear once he gets passed the first level, but he also ran hard behind his pads and kept his legs churning between the tackles. Miller, however, really needs to improve his pass blocking.

SCOUT'S TAKE

Skinny: Miller has the ability to make big plays in the running game and has good size at 5-11, 220 pounds. Miller needs more opportunities to touch the football, since last season he averaged 6.8 yards an attempt and ended the season with 812 yards and seven rushing touchdowns. He had a great game in the New Mexico Bowl against Colorado State where he rushed for 113 yards on only 13 carries while scoring two touchdowns. The question mark is—what type of player would he be without his teammates, most notably fellow running back Anthony Harding?

this one hasnt been confirmed yet, on stamper
I saw some where we Signed Ryan Stamper?

Will Barker, RT, Virginia - 6'7", 320

SI PROFILE:

Positives: King-sized position blocker best in a small area. Blocks with good lean, a wide base, and stays square. Patient in pass protection, effectively gets his hands into defenders, and easily moves them from their angle of attack. Makes good use of angles, displays solid awareness, and keeps his feet moving. Controls defenders once engaged in a block and rarely gives up an inch.

Negatives: Exploited by speed rushers, struggles with his footwork and cannot slide off the edge. Rumbles about the field and ineffective in motion. Gets lazy with his hands and will do a bit of leaning on opponents.

Analysis: Barker has been a durable lineman at Virginia and possesses the size to play at the next level. He's a limited athlete with marginal upside yet could be an effective backup on the strong side if he improves his strength and learns to consistently block with proper fundamentals.
Will Barker seams more likely to be a guard in the NFL.

Eastern Washington quarterback Matt Nichols

Browse more photos »

Here are some preliminary reports on players the Cowboys are signing as undrafted rookie free agents (UDFAs).

[EDITOR'S NOTE: We are updating as new names are reported.]

Matt Nichols, QB, Eastern Washington -6'2", 219

PROFILE:

A solid 3-year starter who has played in some big games against some pretty decent defenses and done well.
Has a bit of gunslinger mentality. Can pinpoint the ball. Let's it fly. Leaves nothing on the field and is a competitor's competitor.

OK size and arm strength. Intelligent and football smart. Will work. Has a little magic in his game.
Runs hot and cold. Has been a bit undisciplined at times. May need to be groomed for longer than you have patience for. Not imposing in any sense. Sometimes exhibits a tad too much swagger.

Story on Nichols' signing:

If Nichols can earn a third-string spot, he gets his contract. However, even if he fails, then there remains the chance that he could still wind up on the Cowboys’ practice squad and earn over $60,000 there.

Being on the practice squad means that he wouldn’t be eligible to partcipate in an NFL game. However, the Cowboys or any other team has the option of plucking him from the practice squad onto a 53-man NFL roster at any point in the season.

Dallas has had some success turning practice squad signal-callers into actual pro quarterbacks. Current Carolina Panthers starting quarter Matt Moore was a former Cowboys practice squad player.

Grandell said that Nichols is expected to be the only free-agent quarterback signing by the Cowboys.

Phil Costa, C, Maryland - 6'3, 300

U of Maryland PROFILE:

An intelligent, versatile player who was the leader of the offensive line as a senior ... a hard-nosed player with good feet ... a two-year starter ... played mostly guard until his senior season when he started at center ... one of the Terps' top reserve linemen in 2006 and 2007 ... emerged as the starting right guard as a junior ... played in 40 career games, including 30 starts (13 at RG/five at LG/12 at center) ... started the final 24 games of his career ... a two-time Academic All-ACC performer ... one of the strongest players on the team during his career ... owns the all-time record among Terps' offensive linemen in the clean (435 in 2008) and is second all-time in the vertical jump (35.5 inches in 2007) among offensive linemen ... also has the third-best strength index (748 in 2008) in school history (among offensive linemen).

Story that he signed with Dallas.

Barry Church, S, Toledo - 6'2", 219

NFL.COM PROFILE:

Church has been an outstanding safety for the Rockets over his four seasons. He has an excellent combination of size and strength for the position. Church is best coming downhill attacking the line of scrimmage. He is a tough, competitive player that is better closer to the line of scrimmage. He has good vision to leverage the ball and excels at filling the alley, as well as reacting to patterns in the passing game. He lacks great range, speed and lateral agility in coverage and this could limit his effectiveness at the next level. Church has the physical stature, toughness and instincts to be an impact player on coverage units (special teams) with a chance to work into a starting safety position.

Chris Gronkowski, FB/TE, Arizona - 6'1", 242

SI PROFILE:

Positives: Undersized tight end/H-back with marginal upside for the next level. Displays good blocking vision, nicely redirects to defenders and works hard. Fluid moving about the field, and does an adequate job catching the ball.

Negatives: Marginal strength at the point of attack and struggles handling linebackers.

Analysis: Gronkowski has been a marginally productive player in college. He will have an uphill climb to make it at the next level and must quickly produce on special teams.

Lonyae Miller, RB, Fresno State - 5'11", 221

From NFL.COM PROFILE:

Miller is a good-sized running back with adequate running skills. He will show a good burst through the hole but will get ahead of his blockers at times, as well. He tends to run a bit erect and will take some shots that a more compact runner can deflect with shoulder pads. He is not very interested in blocking when asked to stay in and pick up the blitz and is not as punishing a runner as he could be. Needs work on finishing his runs. He has enough wiggle to go with good speed and a good burst through the hole to warrant consideration as a late draft pick.

Terrell Hudgins, WR, Elon - 6'1", 237

PROFILE:

Strengths:

Power, size, ball skills, plays fast, a durable, consistent, sure-handed receiver who can make all the catches: the routine as well as circus-style football catches, including one at Chattanooga that made ESPN's SportsCenter where he pinned a pass thrown short to the back of a defender and secured it with one hand. Phoenix14News story on Hudgins signing with the 'Boys.

[UPDATE]: From Todd Archer's tweet:

Chet Teofilo, G, Cal - 6'3", 329

SI's PROFILE:

[UPDATE II]: From NFL.com:

Bryan McCann, cornerback, SMU _ Ran a 4.28 40 at his Pro-Day

Height: 6-0. Weight: 175.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.28.
Vertical: 40.5.

USATODAY - McCann has decent cover ability with outstanding speed. The 6-foot, 175-pounder is an above-average tackler, and ended up with 53 tackles and three interceptions on the season.

Scouting Reports
A tall, lean corner who possesses a long set of arms and good overall physicality for his size, McCann looks comfortable in press coverage and does a good job delivering a compact punch and rerouting receivers off the line. He displays above-average overall bend and flexibility in his drop off the line and can flip his hips to turn and run downfield. But he gets a bit overextended with his footwork in his drop and will struggle to remain balanced when asked to change directions. He showcases good straight-line speed but needs a couple of steps to reach full speed. McCann lacks the same type of technique and polish in off-coverage. He has a tendency to become a bit of a waist bender and gets too straight-legged in his drop. He doesn't look nearly as fluid or flexible and gets caught with too narrow a base and will almost hop his way out of his breaks when asked to change directions. But he showcases good fluidity when asked to turn and run downfield and exhibits the balance/burst to get back up to speed quickly. He possesses good range in coverage and makes it tough for receivers to get behind him. He's a decent open-field tackler who takes good angles toward the ball and can trip ball carriers in space. But McCann lacks power in his upper body and doesn't showcase much willingness to stick his head in and commit vs. the run game. Overall, he's at his best as a press corner, and that skill set alone will give him a chance in the NFL. But he isn't comfortable in off-coverage. He has a chance to make a roster because of his bump-and-run skills.

My HOPE is Church and Costa would make the roster knocking out Procter and Watkins.......Gronkowski looks too raw and I believe we have Phillips pencilled in to block as an H back as well...seemed to work last season quite well.

Costa will replace Procter but Church runs a 4.7 compared to Watkins 4.3. Walls has a real chance to play FS.

Cowboys add two more undrafted free agents

Gerry Fraley/Reporter Bio | E-mail | News tips

The Dallas Cowboys have picked up two more undrafted free agents: Cal offensive tackle Mike Tepper and South Florida punter-kicker Delbert Alvarado.

Alvarado concentrated on punting the last two seasons and had a net average of 40.5 yards in 2009, As a freshman in 2006, he made a 56-yard field goal. He is likely a ``camp leg,'' brought in to protect punter Mat McBriar from over-extending himself as he returns from knee surgery.

Tepper is intriguing because of his size and experience. He is listed at 6 feet 7 and 319 pounds. Tepper moved to left tackle for Cal last season and played well enough in the new role to make first team all-PAC 10.

MSU’s Aumavae signs with Dallas

Former Maverick to report to Cowboys minicamp Wednesday

By Chad Courrier Free Press Staff Writer
MANKATO — Junior Aumavae said the Dallas Cowboys called him Saturday afternoon, saying that they were considering the former Minnesota State defensive tackle with their seventh-round selection in the NFL Draft.

“But then they took another defensive tackle, so I was discouraged,” Aumavae said. “But as soon as the draft ended, they called my agent and worked something out.”

Aumavae said several teams called his agent after the draft, but he chose Dallas, and he will report to their rookie minicamp Wednesday.

Aumavae played in 11 games last season and started nine, making 11 tackles with 14 assists with a half-sack and a forced fumble.

He started his career at Western Washington and had to sit out the 2008 season because of injury. When Western Washington dropped football, he transferred to Minnesota State before last season.

“I think it's impressive for a young man to come from a program that dropped football and then sit out for a year to impress enough people to get invited to an NFL camp,” Hoffner said. “It was a tough road and a long road, but he maximized his opportunity.”

Aumavae, who watched the draft with his family in their Alaskan home, said he's ready to get his professional career started.

“Me and my family are living it up right now,” he said. “I'm excited. It's been a crazy day.”

Updated UDFA Signings 2010:

Phil Costa C Maryland
Bryan McCann CB SMU
Junior Aumavae DT Minnesota State
Chris Gronkowski FB Arizona
Chet Teofilo G Cal
Will Barker OT Virgina
Matt Nichols QB Eastern Washington
Lonyae Miller RB Fresno State
Barry Church SS Toledo
Danny McCray FS LSU
Terrell Hudgins WR Elon
Rashaun Greer WR Colorado State
Lorenzo Washington DE Alabama
Verran Tucker WR Cal
Mike Tepper OT Cal
Delbert Alvarado P/K South Florida

Not 100% on the accuracy, but I think it's right or at least close. By my count, that's 16. I remember hearing Jerry say somewhere that he wanted to sign as many as 16 UDFA's, so this is probably it for us.

Lorenzo Washington could be a good, physical 3-4 DE. He is well schooled in the 3-4.

Came out of high school from Georgia as a blue chip recruit. Highly recruited.
Didn't do much his first couple of years under Shula and his soft, non-aggressive style but when Saban came in he began to blossom. He responded well to Saban's tough, disciplined approach.

He should be in good physical condition because Saban demands it out of his players. He requires that they be relentless competitors. Washington responded very well to the tough coaching.

I'd think that 1-2 of these guys will make the 53 man roster.

My very preliminary guess would be at the FB/H-Back position and in the Secondary. That probably bodes well for Gronkowski and Hudgins and Church and McCann. Maybe P Costa can beat out Proctor, but he possibly can at least get on the PS.

I'd expect several guys will make it on the PS, esp 34 DE as we have had some historical success bringing them along and that we've got 3 restricted FAs at that position right now.

My early fav Free Agent by far is Costa, likewise the most intruiging would be Terrel Hudgins, (he's listed at 6ft1 and 237lbs) after that maybe the 4.39 40 yard dash RB from Fresno State.
