Granted, The Sporting News isn't necessarily correct about everything....but I found it interesting and worth sharing. You can debate its merits, but you cannot debate that they actually said it.

"Who Makes the Call?"

Its an article on what every NFL team does in draft day; are decisions made solo; by a combo; or by committee.

Under committee:

Cowboys. "You might think the Cowboys are a solo operation on draft day,, but they're not. Jerry Jones uses the committee approach - himself, director of player personnel Stephen Jones, coach Wade Phillips, and director of pro and college scouting Tom Ciskowski - to assemble the draft board. Generally, the team follows its board. If there is a disagreement, Jerry Jones serves as the tiebreaker."

I have been saying that for a while. Jerry did the same with BP and Ireland as well as others who all played a role in our past drafts. No reason to think Jerry would not continue this

Agree with DD, not sure why this really comes as a surprise or as news...I think this has been the way he's been doing things for awhile now.

Seems prudent, to boot

I read that to and i might say that this years weekly sporting news draft special is absolutely terrible. I mean their draft guide is not what it has been in the past but their weekly draft special is not any body. I have kept the ones for the past few years and they give description of the players and ranks them. This year they rank the players but no description like they have in the past. They do not even have what round they are projected to go in. Extremely poorly done and very disappointed. I like it the way they had it years before.

Bryan Broaddus was saying yesterday that Jerry was the aggressive one, Stephen was the one who would calm him down and argue that making big moves wasn't always the best thing, Ireland would argue the merits of the prospect, and Parcells would discuss how the player fit our particular team.

He said it all made for a nice system of checks and balances.

And it's the same now, one would assume, with substitutes for Irelandcells.

You don't become as successful in anything as Jerry Jones has been without understanding the value of opposing viewpoints and extra counsel.

Jerry Jones AND Bill Parcells described this exact same process in detail while Bill was still here.

Those that suggest this isn't the way it works are morons. It is the way it works, and has been since Jerry bought the team, since he described a similar approach in his dealings with Jimmy. There was a dark time there, for awhile. But that's what replacing horrific counsel (Lacewell and Co.) with great counsel (The Great Duane Parcells and Jeff Ireland) will do for your end results.

This thread will have failed if the individual I had in mind when I posted this does not reply to this thread...

He'll just claim that it wasn't that way when the Great Jimmah was here. :)
