Regardless how this story turns out, remember the times before TO? When all we had to worry about where drugs, guns, domestic abuse and prostitution related charges against our players. The "White House" anyone? Hall of Fame Induction crack pipes? Dressed and acting like world class pimps?

Irvin has and always will remain my favorite Cowboy player, but the crap like this he's pulled over the years should be remembered when we try to drop the axe on a guy like TO who does nothing but speak truth. Sure he may not be "perfect" but he's never taken any team on a whirl-wind ride like Irvin took, and still takes, us for.

But seriously though, when do these questionable "associations" for him ever end? It's really amazing he ever got into the Hall with the garbage he's carried over his lifetime. It just ever ends. And the guy has got to be nearing, what, 40?

He's 42 you idiot!!! HE'S 42 YOU DAMN IDIOT!!!!!!! HE'S 42 FREAKIN YEARS OLD YOU MORON!!!!!!

j/k, he's 42.

Looks like media outlets are starting to poke holes in Michael's story. When I first heard about it, I thought "What an outstanding human being. Great job, Michael!"

But the more I read about it, I think he may have made the whole thing up to look like a hero.

Per the police report (http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2009/0114091irvin1.html?link=rssfeed)

"Strangely, though the incident reportedly happened Monday evening, Irvin did not contact cops until 5:51 PM Tuesday afternoon, according to Corporal Kevin Janse, a Dallas Police spokesman. Janse told TSG that Irvin "flagged down" a cop, but he did not know where that occurred. Additionally, though Irvin told reporters today that he carried on a conversation with the suspects for several minutes (topics included the Cowboys and the NFL playoffs) before the would-be assailants sped off, the police report does not reflect that banter. After interviewing Irvin, police wrote in their report that when one suspect recognized him and called out his name, "suspect two put down the gun and the suspects drove away."

On whether he filed a police report, Michael says, "I did not. I did not. I did not file a police report. I didn't want to make much of a story out of it outside of sharing it on the radio, but I will tell you this and I said it on the air: They were in a black pickup truck. I know a lot of people drive black pickup trucks but it's the only warning I can give and I didn't get a license plate, so I feel bad about that."

Kinda hard to belive that Michael just had a friendly talk with some guys who had semi-automatic weapons.

Looks like ******** is also treating it as a possible hoax:

Hope this turns out to be false and that Michael was telling the truth. The last thing we need is a Cowboys scandal in the media to tarnish our reputation as America's team!

:starspin

It's absurd to think that police reports are entirely accurate when in fact many aren't. Why would Michael lie about it? Embellish? Distort? Sure. Totally fabricate? Doubt it.

Who cares anyway.

Anyone ever think that maybe the "assailants" weren't trying to rob anyone? Maybe it was two guys in a truck who happened to pull up beside someone they grew up idolizing and decided to talk to him. It just so happened one had a gun in his hand.

I have trouble believing that they were out to rob someone and decided not to rob this rich guy because of his compelling conversation about the glory days of the early 90's.

From Michael's side, it seems that they pulled up beside him, he saw a gun and thought that they would have tried to jack him if he wasn't Michael Irvin. He probably talked football to see if he could pull that card and get some respect. Either it worked or they weren't going to rob him anyway.

Either way, Mike has gotten out of legal situations and avoided others due to someone not snitching on him and he grew up in the streets so he knows the unwritten rule of not cooperation with the so-called authorities.

So he didn't file a report and probably wouldnt have even gone to the police if he hadnt run his mouth on the radio. That made it a big deal and then he would have been wrong not to go to the police in the eyes of the public.

My guess is that he has probably dealt with that type of situation at least once before...

The part of the story that Irvin left out is that the 2 guys in the truck were Plaxico Burress & Marvin Harrison. :D

Define police reports not being entirely accurate?

The police merely report what someone tells them. But I doubt they fabricate information (not that you're saying they do).

That's a crime.
